We have been doing something - maybe someone along the offensive line or Milroe has a TELL - where the defense knows when we've called a running play. It is killing our ground game to the point where we are wasting lots of important downs. Something is making us predictable.

I just think we have weird playcalling that breaks our rhythm.

Then our QB misses a read on a run option or throws an interception or our OL completely whiffed, doesn't move well to run block or commits a penalty or our RB let's air tackle them or our WR drops a pass, runs the wrong route, etc

It's always something

The 2 biggest reasons, IMHO, are penalties and busted plays on 1st down - which tend to be missed throws by Jalen or misreads on reads. Then we get in 2nd and 7+ and we've been really bad about forcing something on that down or getting a penalty, which then puts us in 2nd and even longer or in 3rd and long.

The last 3 quarters of the Missouri game were the first time all seasons we've more consistently stayed on schedule on early downs, and I don't think it was a coincidence it was the first time we really let the running game figure itself out.

Early Downs - vs Missouri
Success Rate - 46%
1st Downs Created - 30%

Early Downs - vs Tennessee
Success Rate - 36%
1st Downs Created - 23%
