Only one of these is rooted in literal war.

In 1979, I went to the Kentucky/Florida game in Gainesville. Florida was getting blown out by Kentucky. The two things I remember...Florida fans were throwing cup lids like frisbees from the top of the stadium and they were landing on the field (freaking amazing) and the crowd was chanting "It's Great to Hate Florida State" throughout the game. They had zero interest in who they were currently playing...all they cared about was screaming about playing Florida State the following week. It was pretty freaking impressive (the crowd, not the team...the team sucked).
For those who ask why was I there...we passed by on our way to my grandparent's house for Thanksgiving week and my father is a UK alum.

Many people from Missouri and Kansas very much hate each other and it has nothing to do with the colleges

Georgia / Georgia Tech
Both sides have cost each other natties, both have used state politics to impede the other, both at one point had their entire identity wrapped about harming the other school.
Perhaps second only to Kansas-Missouri, although the difference there is their football game has never been competitive sport

That you can thank SC for starting for you...

Mizzou-Kansas is #1
Those that don’t rank it there just aren’t aware of the true hatred between them.

Missouri and Kansas.
The rest don't come close.

Clean old fashioned hate is the victim of UGA and GT basically playing a different sport for the last 50 years or so....UGA plays football, GT plays something close but not quite there. That said when GT does mistakenly actually play the same game for more than one season the rivalry is one of the best in sport. Occasionally UGA will drop down to Tech's level and the rivalry is REALLY heated then....it happens about once every 25 years or so....

Missouri/Kansas and Clemson/Carolina are 2 of the most hate filled ones in the country.
FSU/UF and UL/UK are relatively new comparatively
Tech/UGA is historically a fantastic rivalry but hasn't been very competitive outside of short spurts since Tech left the SEC. But when Tech is good and Tech people are excited (early Johnson era, late 90s/early 2000s) it's a fantastic rivalry. Especially in Metro Atlanta.

I've lived in SC and in Georgia.
There is no comparison between the Ga/GT series and SC/Clemson. The Palmetto Bowl has far more hatred and vitriol. It's not close.
I can agree with Missouri/Kansas as being No.1. It's a manifestation of an actual war, now being waged through sports. I get that.
SC/Clemson and UF/FSU are behind that.
After that, who GaS.

While Tech isn't a private school the geographic makeup of the alumni base makes it much more like Vanderbilt/Tennessee than Carolina/Clemson or Alabama/Auburn.
Random towns in Georgia outside of metro Atlanta have less Tech people than Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, etc folks, whereas go to a random town in South Carolina or Alabama and there are going to be a minimum of 20-25% of one or the other fans.
It was not like that back during the heyday of the rivalry when Tech was in the SEC and was much more like other big in-state games.

Here’s to Carolina turning inexplicably turning into a machine as they like to do and taking a big bite out of that Clemson arse this November.

Agreed. Tech alumni also tend to move around the country a little more often, as they work with engineering firms around the US.
That said, whenever I travel through small-town GA, I'm always surprised as to just how many random baws in trucks you see with a GT plate. Guys running manufacturing plants, or tending to construction firms and the like. If GT had the ag school, you'd see even more of it.

Yep - and there are a lot of old multi-generational Tech families out there. Tech just become such a good school and such a tough admit while also sinking in football that it kind of broke the line of non-alum fandom that other southern state schools have kept over the years.

I firmly believe that Tech de-emphasized sports over the last 20 years or so. They more or less chased away all their sidewalk fans, to the point that they really don't have them any longer. Every time I meet a Tech fan, they're either an alum or they have a distinct family connection. They're good people, almost without exception. They're more like Vandy than any school in the SEC.
Honestly, kinda seen the same during the time I've spent in Mississippi. Most State fans I've met are alum. Cowbells, do you see that, too, or am I underestimating the sidewalk contingent?
