Would LSU have been better off if they had hired Mike Elko?

In the early going, it seems as if Elko has "fixed" some of the cultural problems at A&M.

Meanwhile, Kelly is only making the problems at LSU worse.

What problems has Kelly made worse following the last two years of the Orgeron regime?

Elko out coached BK in his first season. Obviously yes.

BK has shown us all his ceiling at ND and now LSU.

He's a modern day Mark Richt only not nearly as likeable.

NO ! Regardless of the head Coach hire( except the likes of a "Saban" ) LSU is much preferred over A&M on and in recruiting.

I know the sports world loves to shite on BK but you are really going to have to spell out what problems BK made worse after taking over from Ed O

Ed O won a national championship and the SEC . Two years ago LSU won the west. This year Kelly won’t get them to the championship game. The running game has gotten worse. The offensive line- terrible. Special teams play. The defense?? Did that team on Saturday look like BK was trending up to you?

I accidentally trolled the shite out of the OP and hurt his feelings so he had to make this sad response thread.

You’ve posted about it and now seen with your eyes that Mike Elko is a better coach than Brian Kelly? Proud of you for admitting it .

Regardless of how you were before Elko, your talent level was much higher than Kelly received coming in. Therefore, not as much to fix.

Having said that, I am not at all a Kelly supporter due to LSU playing soft and overall looking ill prepared in most games. Especially in the first half.

Elko walked into a pretty deep roster, Jimbo was fired because he brought talent in, just couldn’t develop it. Elko looks better at developing, but let’s give it a few seasons to make sure he can bring it in as well.

As fun as it is to bag on LSU after the loss, Kelly isn’t a terrible coach. It’s just funny to see tiger fans expecting Kelly to be something that he never was at ND. He’s a solid coach, with a high floor (8-9 wins is a “bad” season) but also a capped ceiling. Outside of one year that they cakewalked their way into the natty and got embarrassed, he’s usually not going to put it all together for a championship season. That’s what’s he’s shown himself to be his entire career so it’s puzzling to see why LSU thought he’d do something different here. SEC has a way higher level of competition that ND did as an independent.

Honestly I don't know enough about both programs right now to expound much on this, but yes, in 2022 after "that" recruiting class, A&M was ranked higher than LSU in terms of overall talent when Kelly arrived.

But entering this 2024 season (the first after Elko was hired), at least according to 247, LSU had a better roster, mainly because A&M's total score had fallen from a 948 to a 905 over the past two years.

So one could say Elko walked into a better situation (while it was trending down in talent), but entering Saturday, Kelly theoretically still should've had the better team.

First off, congratulations on the win. The second half was completely dominated by the Aggies.

Your above quote is spot on. He does not run a tidy house and the team is not ready to play entirely too often.

Absolutely.

Kelly is almost as old as Mulkey Man and not getting any younger. His window is closing fast.
