Is it even worth going to the SEC Championship?

UGA's resume for the CFP is already pretty strong, and I was wondering if the SECCG is even worth pursuing anymore?

You risk injuries right before the CFP and only get a 1st round BYE if you win the SECCG, and if you win the SECCG, you will have played just as many games as the teams that didn't.

Maybe Kirby would say the extra week of practice is worth it lol

What do y'all think?

I think they’ll have to eventually either do away with conference championship games or make some kind of rule that if both participants in a championship game are ranked in the top 12 before the game the loser can’t be kicked out of the top 12 or something.

My opinion: If you are on the outside looking in to the playoff slots, say #13 or #15, then absolutely put me in the SEC CG to "play in" to the playoffs. If I'm already sitting in the top 5, it's just a liability.

This was all predicted.

But the monkeys said "more football is more football yuck yuck yuck. Where's my waitress I need more blue cheese, I spill half of it on my Steelers jersey yuck yuck yuck."

The people that handle money for a living know that the market lies with the yuck yucks. The smart people and purists have no power.

Makes more sense to have a bye against an elite SEC team in the SECCG, right?

The only way we're not going to the SECCG is to lose another game. That might move us out of the top 7 or 8 and into a first round game on the opponents home field. 1loss and an SECCG win puts us in the top 2 and a bye week.

Whichever team wins the SECCG, I promise you that their fanbase will be really content and feeling good watching the first-round games on TV.

Any team that doesn't get a bye will risk injury by not having a bye, except they'll only have one week to heal instead of three weeks.

There will never be a SEC championship with a playoff spot on the line. The top 3, at minimum, in this conference are going to the playoffs.

This is what Josh Pate warned about

The larger size of conferences without divisions has resulted in less balanced regular season schedules. Do we want to see a SECCG between a team that lost to Notre Dame vs a team that lost to USC? The SEC title could become a joke.

Been covered a lot. If you win-yes. If you lose-definitely not.

Possibly still better to not go even if you win.

Home playoff game as a 5-8 seed and a week off > no week off and playing very hard game.

Losing SECCG you play an extra game.
