Here’s a post to give you some food for thought. Posting his tweet so this is his info not mine:

Major General Grumpy Dool
@PCSoonersFan

Yall with this "Fire Brent" mentality...cmere, sit down. I'm gonna tell you a small tale.

Did you know OU has had multiple seasons of 5+ or more losses? We didnt fire a coach because of it...we maintained the trust and support.
But regardless...

First, do you know that from 1905-1950, OU didnt win a single Natty?
First one was 1950 with Bud Wilkinson. He coached for 3 years before his 4th brought him a natty...and 1955, 1956...all Nattys. Would never have been there if we fired him after losing 2 games. It's just 2 games, right? I digress...
Moving on..
Barry's first year here was 1973, we went 10-0 and didnt win a natty. But you know what we did do?
Win one in 74 and 75....and then went 10 years without. Barry had multiple 4 loss seasons...we never fired him. We stayed the course.
In 1999, we hired Bob Stoops. Lost 5 games and yall wanted him gone. Remember that? Then what happened?
2000. The absolute best season of this century.
If you take into account all the games between 2024 and 1905, BV's current season would only rank him the 25th worst season...ever. Nowhere near John Blake.. Nowhere near Gomer Jones..even Buds worst seasons.
Did you also know that Bennie Owen was once one of the worst coaches OU ever had? 1924...Imagine the world today had OU fired Bennie long before. He's one of the greats now.
Point is...trust the process or find a new team. Changes will happen, but most of us TRUE OU fans are behind BV 100% and have patience.
The rest of you are gonna lose sleep.
Ive attached my spreadsheet for OU's worst coaches and worst seasons...I went back futher but this will give you an idea of where we are.

Trust the process.
Trust Joe C...and Trust Brent Venables.
Dont turn your back on a team when it's down.
And stop with this nonsense of firing BV.
Your instant gratification is disgusting

I appreciate it. I'm not saying "Fire Brent" yet, but numbers don't always tell the whole story.

But I stand corrected on the "2 more years until Brent hires an actual QB coach"

Our program was gutted by Riley. As people are seeing at USC, he is a one trick pony. Brent walked into that.

I'm tired of hearing this...

Riley didn't "gut" the program... The innards he left was the remnants of an11-2 team sans a QB/a couple of guys who went to the NFL early.

To his credit, BV and Lebby struck gold with Gabriel... so we dodged that bullet.

Simply put, the situation Brent inherited was a program that was slipping... but not "gutted"...

The OU situation was nowhere near as bad as the situation that say a Jedd Fisch inherited at Arizona... Or Deboer had at Washington or Brett Bulemia had at Illinois, or certainly not Cignetti at Indiana.

And no matter how bad it was then... it is even worse now in terms of the product on the field.

The defense is better but isn't great... and the offense is abysmal.

And also, that tweet you posted. That guy is full of crap. Completely clueless about what really happened in OU history. Rather than dissect all the bs crap he said in that tweet... I'll just give one example...NOBODY... and I mean NOBODY... wanted Bob Stoops fired after the 1999 season.

That being said I don't disagree that Brent should be allowed year four.

As for Joe C? A whole bunch other ADs would have probably hired Brent Venables in 2022 given the options they had that year.

Brent did not recognize some identifiable long term roster management issues that have bit him in the behind... and the decision to allow Gabriel to leave is going to turn out to look foolish in retrospect...

We just don't know if the bite he took was lethal or not.
