How can you interfere with an uncatchable pass? The defender has the same right to the ball as the receiver. How would you even know who to call it on if nobody has a shot at the ball?

I wish they'd expand it. If a tick tack foul is on the complete other side of the field and did not affect the play whatsoever, I think they should be be enforced on the next play from scrimmage but not take away what the previous play.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen a great play, kick return, something get completely erased because of some non-major penalty that was nowhere near the play and affected the play in zero way, many games many teams, not just my own.
It makes me sick every time.

Actually if the SEC really doesn’t allow multiple replays ( in stadium) on a contested call THAT would be the stupidest rule in football.

You understand what thick minded people can’t comprehend
If a defender is called for holding a WR on the right side of the field
And the pass is thrown deep on the left side of the field
And is obviously uncatchable
They will still call defensive holding

Honestly, football is a stupid game.

Worst is the half distance penalties near the goal for the team facing the goal line.
Penalties should be half the distance away from the goal exactly like the penalties are assessed towards the goal line when it is half the distance.

Holding is before the ball is thrown so it doesn’t matter where the ball is thrown because it could have been going to the held receiver.

Targeting.
Its not the targeting penalty itself is stupid but the fricking suspension the next game is beyond the pale asinine.

If it happens before the ball is thrown, it's holding. If it happens after the ball is thrown and the ball isn't catchable, then the defender did nothing that changed the outcome of the play.

a tipped pass does negate a PI call the same way though
as does an illegal man downfield flag is picked up if the pass was behind the LOS
but your question is kinda stupid if you aren’t asking that.. or worded wrong..
yes, other penalties are called on an unmatchable pass.. but the whole premise is that there can’t be PI if the ball is uncatchabke.. whereas the hold across the field may have effected the play somehow..
domino effect if you will.. if that guy wasn’t held.. the next guy would have to block him.. freeing up the next guy.. etc etc until you get close to the person with the ball
