SoG, I agree with your takeaway, but reject the premise that NIL and the transfer portal has injected a bunch of parity into the sport.

Just last year there was so little parity in conference play, an undefeated “power conference” team didn’t make the playoff. And there were 7 teams undefeated or 1 loss P4 teams after conference championships.

Time will tell, but my opinion is this is more of a one off due to there not being elite QB play rather than a return to the BCS era level of parity. Conference realignment may also give the appearance of more parity just by consolidating the best teams, so they have to play each other (Oregon vs Ohio State).

The low point of CFB parity was probably late 2010s because the best teams Alabama and Clemson also had good NFL QBs - Tua, Hurts, Lawrence, Watson.

You could absolutely be correct. It may be that we've just fallen down a class into the group that still wins most of their games but has competitive games whenever they don't play well, as well.
