It's not even necessarily that they're bad players. It's just that this is a brand new scheme and defensive philosophy, and they're not guys that Wommack recruited.

Wommack would like a bunch of smaller, faster guys that are tough tacklers, flying around and making plays. He basically wants a bunch of DBs behind the DLine.

Well, he needs 6 more DB's behind his LBers.

I thought you were going to discuss things that went wrong on offense and defense and yet you just shite on Milroe ... I mean why?

I also have an issue with our DL coach. We have been average since Roach has been the coach. They don’t seem to be taught to use their hands on the first hit of the OL. They seem to so chest first, and get pulled in and blocked. I also don’t think he is a good evaluator of talent. I think we chase stars instead on talent. I would take a 2-3 star that has a motor that won’t quit and stays after it until the play ends. I sure do miss Bo Davis! He had some dogs that got after it.

I’m surprised the OP didn’t drop the n word when talking about how bad Milroe is.

couch coach thread.... Always fun.

I'll play along.

First of all, let's understand that we're having a lot of bad luck recently related to untimely penalties and bad bounces.

You create your own luck. These players seem lost at times. Most likely because of learning a new system (I'm hoping this anyway). Defense is a different story... The DC is obviously in over his head. Players have little situational awareness and seem to be out of place more often than not.

quote:

Instead, he inexplicably runs right into the back of his own lineman, and falls down. How is this possible?

77 was beat and there was an unguarded defending in the flats to the left. So, he appears to run right behind a blocker. OLine just isn't great.

quote:

Milroe is HORRIBLE at throwing screens. Look at this bullshite. A ten yard play becomes a 3 yard play

Defender appears to be in his passing lane so he had throw around the defender, which was behind the wr. O line once again isn't great.

The interception before the half was stupid. I don't know why we weren't running the ball before the half to run the clock and get off the field. Just a real coaching blunder of play calls, imo.

Yes, Jalen could be better. However, I think the o line contributes to this, as well.

The most disturbing thing to me is the defensive inconsistency.

We're pretty consistent on defense.
We consistently give up multiple first downside per drive, never any 3 and outs.
Not many punts.

Alabama is #10 in the country in SCORING offense - albeit much lower in total offense (#42). If a defense can make them drive the field, they have more issues. Got it - can live with it if scoring points.

Definitely not perfect - I think there is a tackle issue - those guys are getting beat on the outside. The middle guys are good.

The big problem is obvious. It’s the defense. They are undisciplined and reckless. Period.

The roughing the passer penalty was bullshite - that's another stop.

He hit the QB in the head. You can’t do that. They need to stop jumping in the damn air when making a tackle. #11 loves to leave his feet. A coach needs to be getting on these guy’s arse in the film room.

Well the more you look into it, our team plays as well as Milroe plays.

If Milroe could have one game where he doesn't turn the ball over multiple times, we'd be fine.

The defense is a bit inconsistent, but they're not as bad as everyone thinks. They've been excellent in creating turnovers, and when Wommack calls a blitz they're very effective. We looked like shite vs. Vanderbilt's weird offense, but hasn't the defense been pretty damn good outside of that?

When you have a coach like Sark or Kiffin, the success of the team really depends on the QB. They both went to the portal to get a QB, and they both started winning immediately after.

Maybe DeBoer needs to go into the portal for a QB if Ty Simpson isn't up to par for next season.

This is true. We aren’t a 10-12 play drive team and it pisses me off. I like to break their will.

I gave the LBers a bit of slack due to learning a new defense.
