A few quotes:

quote:

"I can tell y'all what would have happened in the days that I was there," Harris said. "We would have tried to rip the 'C' off his jersey. We would have lit him up. From every coach, every player, Reuben Foster, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Daron Payne, Jalen Hurts, Jerry Jeudy. Everybody would have been on this dude's head, like, we don't do that.

quote:

"I'm gonna tell y'all exactly why [Moore] feels like he can act like that," Harris said. "You go and look at what Kalen DeBoer said in his postgame press conference about Malachi Moore. 'Oh, well he's one of our guys, and he's one of our leaders. Yeah, we expect him to use this and only bring positivity the rest of the season.' Man, damn that! What's up with that? Nick Saban would have said that? No! That's bullsh---. That don't help you win games. That does not help you control the talent and the level of guys that you've never coached before, guys that you've never had experience with, at a program that you don't know what it takes to win these kinds of games.

"You just come in here and try to be everybody's buddy-buddy. Try to be everybody's friend. Well what does that get you? That gets you beat against Vandy on the road."

Agree with Damien. One thing I had noticed in player and his personal interviews, Deboer seemed to be too friendly with players.
That can come back and bite you in the butt.

It's all good when the team is winning. But start losing and those 'friendly' relationships sour quickly

There was never anyone that was gonna take this job and fill Saban's shoes. Hell Saban couldnt even do it. What we saw Saban do will never happen again because the game has changed. Unlimited free agency and unregulated paying of players has permanently changed the game. 57 year old Saban couldnt come in and do what he did when he got here in 2007.

Its not excusing Moore. The dude needs a forced attitude adjustment. Im saying that I dont envy coaches in 2024. I especially dont envy having to replace the GOAT at a time like this.

The 2009 days are over. the 2011 days are over, the 2012 days are over....I respect Harris a lot for his time at Bama and his words arent untrue...but they didnt need to be said publicly

They 1 million percent need to be said publicly. Moore needs to see this, everyone needs to be crawling his arse publicly and privately. Until Deboer and Moore get the fricking message.

Look, DeBoer isn't a hard-arse drill sergeant. He's a player's coach. He wants a "player-led" team.

I'd prefer more of a hard arse coach, but it is what it is.

At the end of the day, not a single coach out there is gonna live up to Saban. They're gonna be worse in some way.

I feel bad for these players whose mindsets were developed under Saban, and now Mr. Loosey Goosey is coming in changing the whole culture. If it was up to DeBoer a lot of things wouldn't even be in place - such as wearing suits to the game - that's something the players wanted to keep as a tradition.

It's gonna take 2-3 years for the Saban culture to fully transform into the DeBoer culture, for better or worse, but a lot of players and fans are gonna be second-guessing this guy every time we lose a game. It's rough, and this is why everyone thought he was crazy for taking the job. He could be in Washington right now and go 8-4 or 9-3, and their fans would be totally understanding

I agree with a lot of this. I know fans are gonna compare because it's human nature to compare to the the greatest coach of all time, however I kinda cringe when I hear "What do you think Nick Saban would have done?" This is the exact reason why a lot of coaches would want nothing to do with taking the job post Saban.

I've tried to tell myself that things will undoubtedly be different. That doesn't mean I agree with everything and I don't really agree with how the situation with Malachi has been handled so far. On the other hand, I am willing to be patient and let Kalen Deboer find his footing. I'm trying not to jump on him and give credence to everyone who said our fanbase would be all over him after one loss. I have major respect for him taking the job anyway. Many coaches are/were too scared of the challenge. Sorry for the long post! Ha!

You can be both. You can be a hard arse drill sergeant and also have a player-led team. Saban did. He had his players' leadership group. Case in point: whose idea was it to send Tony Brown home from Dallas in 2015? Not Saban's.

This makes me wonder if today will be his first big reality check down here. It’s Monday, and people are still pissed that we lost.

We won’t be somewhat happy until we get a win on Saturday against USCe. It’s still embarrassing beyond words.

Calling out Moore is one thing. Hes a former player and has that right. I think publicly having Deboer's back would be better for the program than throwing him under the bus 5 games in. The Saban comparison isnt fair and isnt gonna help the program

I've got half a mind to call into the coaches show on Wednesday and ask

"Two part question coach. First, the team struggled to handle the option, was that an issue with the line, the linebackers, or the safeties or was it just a team thing? Secondly... will you fire Kane Wommack this week or will you wait until after the team plays in the Music City Bowl?"
