They are staying in the Merica Conference.
That must sting a little bit.

Reject is a strong word. They can't afford to pay the AAC bailout basically.

Why did they leave the SEC in the first place? I have never heard that story. I know why Tech left. Tulane must regret the decision to leave the SEC really bad.

Neither have "State" in their name.
They knew they wouldn't belong.

They were struggling financially, and as a result, they wanted to drop down a level in competition to be with more like-minded institutions, e.g., Duke, Emory, Rice, etc., in a "Magnolia League" that never materialized. Honestly, I feel like the conference should just reinvite them for the hell of it, because a) another Vanderbilt is always nice, b) they're not a threat to anyone, c) we can afford it, and d) they'll help with landing UVA and UNC (if the ACC collapses) by raising the academic profile of the conference.

I never understood why go. Would the maybe extra TV pay for all the extra travel? And outside of Boise, who is good?

1. They know that the pac 12 doesn’t have a tv deal right now so it’s a financial risk to join the pac 12 without being guaranteed more money then being in the AAC
2. How much more money would they get in pac 12 because travel would be a nightmare for Olympic sports other than basketball. that’s why pac 12 was offering a plan for only football and basketball to join the pac 12, while the other Olympic sports would be in a regional conference to lower travel cost
3. AAC will always be more competitive conference than the new pac 12 would be. Especially baseball knowing that most likely only 6 to 7 pac 12 member will offer baseball. Plus other then Oregon state and maybe Gonzaga, all other new pac 12 teams are terrible in baseball.

It’s also not worth it when the Pac 12 is going to be essentially be the same as the American only on the West Coast

Tulane and Memphis seem like a better fit for the ACC
