What’s the story behind the Texas orange? I’m in Austin all the time and when I wear a Tennessee shirt I stick out big time hahaha

Not sure how orange became the school color. But Texas actually used a lighter shade of orange until the early 60s when Darrell Royal darkened it to better hide the football in his option offense.

I almost feel like it’s got to do with Protestantism. Most of East Tennessee is Scott Irish and at one point wouldn’t have been too far removed from the religious conflicts of the British isles. Protestant armies would typically incorporate a not too disimilar shade of orange into their battle colors

It literally has nothing to do with that.

It’s creamsicle orange. Good for playing on Saturday and wearing to jail on Sunday.

I don’t know. Maybe it was sort of a latent attraction? I’ve heard others speculate on it. That doesn’t necessarily make it true. But history can be easily morphed or forgotten

Interesting! I always enjoy history especially about college football. I enjoy Austin a lot I usually go to pluckers before the games

Austin is a good town but has lost a lot of the charm it had in 90s. Lots of people from CA moving there. Kinda like a donut, ultra liberal in the hope part and normal people everywhere else around it. But game day is awesome and a visiting fan probably won’t have to buy a beer all weekend.

It’s documented history. Charles Moore picked orange and white on the first field day in 1891 because it matched the colors of the daisies on the Hill. There’s no religious subtext. It’s weird you’re trying to insert one.

Was watching the game last night and just wondering if there is any particular history/tradition/connection behind the Tennessee orange. Not trolling or anything here, but it’s a unique shade and I don’t think anyone in college football has the same color so was just curious.
Nobody has our color either, and NFL as well. Tenn's creamsicle is awfully close to Tampa Bay's old uni.

Bro, have you even ever seen Bevo? It's also the color of Texas sunsets.
