Did Tenner go vanilla on offense last night?

I see all this chatter about OU showing up on D. But it looked like Tenner grabbed a lead and then folded their tents on offense.

I think the only threw the ball 5 times in the second half. They were run heavy for most of the game.

Yeah I’m not buying this whole OU defense narrative.

The 2nd half was probably the most conservative play calling I've seen since Heupel took over. 19-3 lead, both starting offensive tackles being out of the game, poor field conditions & the defense playing lights out probably all contributed to it.
We're a run first offense, but 52 rushes to 21 passes is excessive even for us.

There was a massive dose of pity provided by Tennessee.

Heupel knew the only way OU could win this game was if his young QB turned it over
So he put the offense in hibernation and Tennessee still walked away with a double digit win

No. And if they did, then Heupel is a terrible coach for going vanilla due to having a 12 point lead at halftime in SEC competition.
The truth is Tennessee ran the ball because they couldn't protect their QB in the pocket very well and it resulted in 2 strip sacks. Meanwhile, they did have decent success running the ball. In fact, they ran the ball 8 straight times for a TD after the 2nd strip sack.
6 points was just all their offense could do in the 2nd half.
The way you actually do it is get a comfortable lead and then put in your 2nd string. Tennessee 1st string played all game. Why do that, just to ruin their stats and risk their health? They sure as hell didn't have a problem running up the score against any other team.

Because their QB kept getting strip sacked when they tried to pass.

They didn’t go anywhere on offense the whole second half. Heupel tried to keep the ball on the ground and they didn’t even move the ball. Nico had no idea what to do with the ball outside of a two slants they got big gains on. OU was strip sacking Nico every time he dropped back to pass so…what would you do? Don’t worry Mizzou gets to find out how good the OU defense is. I doubt they even score a td on OU with that pathetic arse offense.

It was a 16 point lead, so this not a good start for you.
shite field conditions, thin at the tackle spots, defense playing great.
Maxim 4: Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

Congratulations. My first bookmark of the season. See ya in November!

I'd be furious at the idea of an Alabama HC taking the foot off the gas against a top15 SEC opponent because he had a 16 point lead at half time.
And then leaving the starters in the entire rest of the game as well while doing it? Risking all those hits and injuries for 6 points in the entire 2nd half while it would have been easy for them to just throw a single quick TD and put in the 2nd string with the same buffer?
I guess the game is changing because those seems like terrible coaching choices to me.

TN didn’t move the ball all night outside of a couple chunk plays. They had the ball at midfield all night and went 3 and out repeatedly. OUs defense could have won that game if they had an opportunity at a couple more turnovers. Nico was seeing ghosts by the 3rd Q and was strip sacked multiple times when he tried to pass.

I’ll be sure to bookmark this so I can laugh at you when y’all lose.

Nico missed or had a lot of drops on mid range passes. That offense stalls if they don't get 5 yds on 1st down.

Lose to who? OU?

You guys aint Vandy. Good luck in your SEC debut, not worried about Chokelahoma at all. You guys will probably have another 2 losses by the time you run into the real Tigers.

12, 16, still the same point.
You protect those players by putting them on the bench. You only scored 6 points in the 2nd half, why not just throw a quick TD to start the 2nd half and bench the players? Get your depth experience, while your starters celebrate.
Why did you run the ball 8 straight times for your 2nd TD in the 1st half when only up by 9? Maybe because your QB was strip sacked the previous play?

If it was Alabama rather than Tennessee, I would not be pleased. I'd be happy to get away with a win, but there are obviously problems. Big plays are nice, but it's rough to count on them and when they dry up, your team can't move the ball.
And the 2 strip sacks were forced by the OU defense, but the fumbles in the other direction were straight up dumb mistakes by the OU QB. And it gave them the ball directly back, in the final case moving the ball 21 yards in 1 play for Tennessee. Tons of 3 and outs etc.
But then when you look at where Tennessee has been for the past 20 years, I can see why they are excited. They are blind to the reality, but it's better than the shite sandwiches they've been eating.
The most impressive part of what Tennessee did was running the ball 8 times for a TD before the half. OU defense was no doubt a bit tired, but that's the kind of shite good teams need.

They were very good defensively and not as much as a threat offensively. They either played softly because they didn't have to play aggressive or because they just couldn't. Nico has to stop holding the ball likes it's soft butter. It didn't help being down our 2 starting tackles. Hats off to oklahomas defense. They could have easily and justifiably quit multiple times and they just wouldnt. Super physical game.
