Ty Simpson Looked Sharp

He got in the game, and the offense looked so crisp and coherent - backup Oline not withstanding.
I saw him go to the line, check to a different play, get everyone re-aligned, get the snap off with plenty of time, and immediately hit the open WR for a good gain. The guy just gets it, and mentally is way ahead of Milroe (Sorry but it's true).
Two simple passes to me tell the story -
1. WR screen - He gets the snap, instantly rockets the ball to the flat, perfectly in front of the WR so he could catch and scoot upfield. Milroe can't throw screens to save his life.
2. 4 yd pass across the middle on 3rd & 7 - He put the ball on a dime 4 yards away to a WR running full speed across the middle. Because the ball was placed perfectly, the WR was able to take it upfield and get the first down without adjusting to the pass.
These are 2 throws that Simpson makes in his sleep that I've never seen Milroe make.
Things that often get overlooked, like ball placement, adds up to a big difference in YAC.
The offense takes on a new life.
I'm not saying bench Milroe. His running ability is great, and he's able to make some big-time throws, but if this offense is ever really shitting the bed, Simpson wouldn't be a bad call for an immediate change of pace.
We don't have a QB1 and a QB2. We have a QB1a and a QB1b. Not a bad thing

I agree. It’s good to have a backup quarterback ready to play

It doesn't have to be a QB controversy. Both QBs looked good today - they're just very different styles.

He definitely has locked down that backup QB spot.

It's not really debatable how smooth his short passes are. I don't know if his deep throws are as good as Milroe's, but he does everything else so well.
Not sure why it's so hard to admit for some.

They gained 32 yards and punted.

They were pretty much shutting down the offense at that point, and he was playing with the backup O-Line.
The point is, the passing game looked much crisper and coherent. All of a sudden the "playcalling" didn't look bad. Everything made sense. The backup Oline got blown up on third down and allowed a sack. Other than that, everything looked good.

How does not throwing it deep make "sense". Bama goes deep. That shite was borrriiinnngg. They did young Ty a disservice. They also didn't use his legs enough.

Why are we even giving Ty reps? We'd be better suited throwing Mack out there, no?

I mean we're never going to see Ty with the first team offense going all out in garbage time. It is what it is

They should still run the first team offense, not that bullshite. I guarantee you they run it for Mack. And even if they didn't he should be smart enough to go deep on his own. He should be better at running our offense.

Let's not play that game. If the same thing had happened on an identical drive with Jalen people would be saying the drive was killed on the badly overthrown ball to Odom on first down. You can't use the o-line excuse for Ty when it wasn't allowed for Jalen last week.

Yes, we can because
1. Ty is working with the backup line
2. Jalen holds the ball longer than any QB in the FBS
Look, I'm just having a friendly discussion. I thought both QBs played well today. Milroe put himself in the Heisman race.

It's easy to admit Milroe is worthy of being a Captain and the starting QB and be happy we have a play making QB with Heisman recognition

So I’m not a pull Jalen guy by any means. The offense did however resemble more of what we saw at Washington I thought.

He wasn’t holding the ball too long today. He even got the ball out short a few times when they were bringing pressure.

Also true

Also, didn't Milroe work under a reconstructed o-line last week? Notice how Simpson couldn't get to the edge on his run, but those short passes though. Let's exchange that for being the top in the nation in explosive plays and keeping defenses guessing.
Saying Simpson should be considered a starter is delusional and exhausting. Great player but behind an awesome talent

That passing game at Washington was wayyyyy more vertical than what Ty got to run. They had 3 receivers who were contested ball guys. They need to let Ty push the ball and use his legs.
