Transylvania Land Company (?) was established in the 1700's in Kentucky. Transylvania College was a product of that I think. At one time had a better Medical school than Harvard. It has always been a private school but is now Transylvania University. Part of it was "spun off" to become what is now the University of Kentucky.

Hallmark Cards lost a lawsuit in the 1970's for using "Transylvania University" in a Halloween card. The real life Constantine Samuel Rafinesque-Schmaltz (his tomb is on campus) is way crazier than any fictional Dracula.
