College football is the greatest sport to ever grace the face of this soulless planet.

CFB will likely become the same as the NFL, but at one time, college football was amazing and vibrant, and the pinnacle of everything good in America.

Wholesome, good, complete…everything God interested, and the years spanned from 1998 to the mid 2000’s were everything the sport aspires to be.

Today, it’s soft, sad, and uninspiring. I am holding out for a renaissance, because I love CFB.

Yep. I know I’m biased because of how it ended but 2007 was the peak IMO

All the upsets, cursed #2 spot, Tebow, USF, Kansas…

Do you mean before Nick Saban found his way to ALABAMA? We hear that a lot.

I thought NIL was supposed to increase parity, but Texas A&M proves otherwise

Yeah.

And it's not an insult, if anything it's a copmliment of the highest order. One team (doesn't matter if it's alabama or new mexico state, the team is irrelevnat) dominating the sport so throroughly for over a decade isn't fun.

In the 90s you had some megapowers all on top fo their game, but you still went into a season wondering if it was going to be FSU, Florida, Nebraska, etc on top. Tennessee and Michigan were big time as well. Miami, Washington, Penn State all had years they made noise and of course bama also won a natty early in that decade as well.

In the 00s you had OU and USC at the top of the pile overall but Miami and OSU made their mark early on in the decade, and Florida's resurgence under Meyer came later. Texas and LSU had big years. It's all the same teams in the pot but it was still a crapshoot on which would be king in any given year.

that changed in 2009 and onwards when it was basically alabama winning a title every single season. A team not named alabama winning was actually a shock. Something like that just simply isn't good for the sport, and I truly believe that it's why we're in the shape we are today. We don't scrap the BCS for playofffs if not for 2011. We don't see the absolute megamillions going into stadiums and facilities if not for in an attempt to keep pace with bama.

You may want to study a little harder on the history of college football. Greed is why we are where we are. Georgia hired Smart away from ALABAMA because they wanted to be just like BAMA in every way. Winning comes with a cost and the cost of doing business changes every time someone or a team raises the bar.

Coach Bryant changed the price of doing business in his day and Coach Saban simply did the same. We didn't invent the wheel just made it better.

I'm very well versed on cfb thank you

greed has existed in cfb and in life since its very inception. Yet it's only in the last 10 years that the sport has changed so much that its practically unrecognizable

typical bammer. You aren't neven worth conversing with if this is what you actually think, and knowing how much of your fanbase thinks I'll assume you actually do believe it

Maybe wholesome from the outside. It has been a rough arse nasty sport for a while. But that is just the nature of the sport.

It’s in decline… all good things come to an end and College football is rapidly falling. It’s really football in general as they have changed the game drastically moving it to more flag football than real football. college though is on a faster path.

I see MLB continuing to grow and shockingly enough soccer to continue to gain traction.

People have been complaining about college football for well over 100 years.

From the days of the flying wedge causing deaths...

To the invention of "scholarships" in the '20s...

To bidding wars for coaches and player vets after WWII

To facemasks making collisions on the field "too dangerous"

To two platoon football taking "character" out of the game

To allowing Black players who aren't "college material" being allowed to play (which of course led to the "buying" of players)

To the pros stealing college players before their eligibility was up.

To steroids and PEDs

To college football becoming too "commercialized" and flush with money due to TV

To exploding coaching salaries and facility arms races...

And heck, I haven't even GOT to 1998 yet!!!
