I may be wrong but bama scheduled some big name ( I remember Michigan) first or second game of the year.

Looked it up. 4 times Alabama did not play a top 25 team the first 2 weeks. Texas, Virginia tech, duke, and Louisville since sabans 2nd year.
2020 was conference games only.
Many times it was a top 10 or top 20. Hate on them but not for scheduling.
