Surprised Troy Smith from OhioSt. didn't show up here

they typically don't give Heismans to lousy players.

The fact that Troy got whooped in his final game and never did anythign in the pros doesn' negate that he was a great college QB.

Yeah I made a mistake. He was on the team but wasn't the starter for their 2002 Natty. That's what I was thinking of. I totally forgot he won the Heisman in 2006. Still didn't think he was that stellar of a QB though.

mcarron was solid. didn't have the focus to stay longer in the nfl. career backup isnt a bad thing.

Stay longer? AJ was on a NFL team last season. The guy has hung around the league for over a decade and made about $20 million. He had a brief shot at being the full time starter before they drafted Josh Allen in Buffalo, but got injured in the preseason and pretty much became a career backup....which is the best gig in the game. McCarron has probably one of the most decorated careers ever for a college QB...Heisman runner up, Maxwell Award and, most importantly, owner of 3 NC rings.

As far as Bama QBs that won a NC...Barker was definitely the worst QB in the year the NC was actually won, but by '94 he was a very good QB.

Jake Coker didn't do anything in the NFL, but he had one great college season when he won the NC...kinda like Joe Burrow did.

I’m a UGA alum and the only correct answer is Buck Belue.

Way too much recency bias.

Yeah but I get that. Its hard to compare QBs this century to last

Way too much recency bias. Quarterbacks back in the day weren't required to do nearly as much. Go back and look at the stat lines from national championship quarterbacks 50 or 60 years.
I agree. Offensive philosophy wasn’t half as developed either. Up until 20 years ago tons of teams still thought I formation was an optimal base offense. It’s hard to compare across eras

Tee set an NCAA record that stood for eons.

If the thread title was Worst Wonderlic Scores of QBs to win a national title, you'd be correct.

Well Burrow made a Superbowl. Not sure Coker got a cup of coffee tbh.

It was a joke. Coker never made it out of training camp.

McElroy was 10x better than Jay Barker. I think he threw 3 interceptions in the Miami game. I know it was at least 2. Was not accurate on the long ball. McElroy was.

BAMA vs Texas 2009

Greg McElroy - 6-11, 58 yards.

They are not the worst QBs. They were good solid college players, but not NFL quality.

I hate to ay this because I loved the guy but Matt Mauck has to be way up there. He won the NC in 2003 after a failed baseball career and was then drafted in the 7th round. He played 2 games for Tennessee and was traded to San Diego and was on their practice squad one season.

No but he is in the running for most underwhelming heisman trophy winner in the modern era.
