re: Monte Kiffin has passed away

The term football genius gets thrown around a lot but Monte Kiffin really was a genius at designing and implementing defenses. One reason Arkansas did so well under Lou Holtz was that we had a scary defense.

As Alabama demonstrated during the earlier years of Saban's tenure, a great defense combined with an efficient ball control offense will win you a lot of games. Well when he was on the Hill Arkansas had its share of games where our offense put up big numbers, but we also won quite a few grind out games because the other team had major issues just picking up a first down, let alone scoring points.

Then he followed that up with even greater success at the NFL and that is incredibly rare. Kiffin fundamentally altered how defense is played in the NFL and offenses were forced to adapt.

Monte Kiffin had a great run and he had a major impact on the sport of football.
