When was the first time Bama played AT Auburn?

1989.

I know the Iron Bowl was “neutral” at Legion Field, but most people with common sense know that Birmingham might as well be West Tuscaloosa when it comes to Alabama athletics.

1. B'ham is northeast of Tuscaloosa.

2. Outside of the Iron Bowl, Auburn probably averaged one home game a year at Legion Field from 1950-1979. Played teams like Tennessee and Georgia Tech there quite a bit during that span.

Between 1948-1988, Auburn played the Iron Bowl every season at Legion Field but only 25 other games there…. 25 games in 41 years.

But it’s not like BHM was our second home… it was far more common in those days to play games all over the place.

In the same time period, we played 11 times in Columbus, 8 times in Mobile, and 6 times in Montgomery.

Bama played 3-4 games per season in Birmingham every year, including almost every meaningful game up through the early 1990s.
