Main problem with these things is people often times don't understand the times.

I mean sure, Alabama has a strong case for 77, but that's just not how people voted. Happened in 66 as well. Alabama wins the NC in 64, 65, goes undefeated in 66 and Notre Dame ties Michigan St, doesn't play in a bowl game at all, but wins the NC.

On the one hand it sucks, but on the other hand it's just how it was. The votes were often not 100%.

And there is a whole story behind the reasons why and how the Big10 and Pac along with the Rose Bowl blocked change in CFP for decades and how everyone else forced them to change.
