"I think it's pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you," Schlossnagle said. "But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn't changed in my mind. That's unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking (Braden) Montgomery if he's going to sign in the draft. But I understand you've got to ask the question. But I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job. And I poured every ounce of my soul into this job and I gave this job every ounce I could possibly give it. Write that."
I really don’t understand the uproar. Everything Schloss told the media in his postgame presser about this topic, which I quoted above, was truthful.

Playing the holier than thou act on a reporter asking what was clearly a relevant and pertinent question just makes him come off like a bitch.

So when did he “leave” his family? And he stated he put his heart and soul into it - well I guess he did up until Texas came calling. Then he said “frick it, I’m out of here”.

I wonder if you'd feel the same if LSU poached a great coach from a top 25 job (TCU) with the understanding your dream job isn't Alabama, and the said coach leaves for Alabama the moment he can.
I love to hate aggie, but the texas a&m job is unquestionably a top 15 college baseball job. it's just a test of character and integrity and it's not pearl clutching saying what schloss did was classless. his butt buddy left TCU for Texas, and it was widely known Pierce was not the guy for a few years. Just stay at TCU and wait it out, even if you have some family issues...dude cleaned up fiscally at TCU. I am sure he'd manage.

Dude berates a reporter, storms off the presser with utter contempt.
And…
Takes the job the next day. Nothing to see here.

Because

It wasn't.
I have no dog in this but he flat out lied. I don't care if he stayed at A&M or went to Texas but it was a page straight out of Saban saying "I won't be the head coach at Alabama".
Aggie fans are an odd bunch but I don't blame them for being ticked off. The guy lied to everyone in his press conference saying he won't leave and he's "the 12th man and he's A&M through and through", is "offended" at the question he may accept Texas's offer by a reporter after losing in the CWS finals and less than 24 hours later, he splits for Texas.
That's why their fans are ticked.
I don't blame them. I don't feel bad for them but that's why there's an uproar. The guy proved to everyone he's a liar.

that's the thing i don't understand with these dickhead coaches.
why act defensive and treat people like shite? you don't have to treat people like shite.
i've always thought schloss came across as a jerk. i hate the forced in game interviews, but he is by far the most uncomfortable.
also, the dude was trashing his own fans for being weird. it's one thing for fans of other schools to joke about them, but it's strange a coach employed by the university goes out of his way to do it. i know some around here think that's funny and great, but i find it classless.

the funny thing to me is he said he left his family to be at a&m and somehow that meant he was going to stay at a&m. that never made sense to me.
he's exactly the kind of person who would leave a&m for their rival.

Are you serious?
How is that truthful? It sounds like this was in the works for quite some time.
Clearly it wasn't unfair to ask the question given it became reality.
I also find it to be a crappy move he let Texas leak it the day of their Championship. I mean firing their coach the day of the National championship. And yes, he did let that happen, because Texas would have respected his wishes if he said don't do that the day of the Championship.
I have no issue with Texas doing what they needed to do even if it was dirty, but Schloss could have been better about when the news dropped. I don't blame Texas for doing it.

Schloss did nothing wrong. He quit a job to take another one, just as many of us have and will. His comments right before announcing he was quitting are just what he should have said to protect Texas A&M, himself, and the program in the event the Texas deal fell through. (Although if, as reported, the deal was already signed, it seems odd. Maybe he was complying with a confidentiality clause in his Texas agreement.)
Fans who criticize this sort of behavior expect coaches, and players, to disregard their own best interests and sacrifice increased earnings or better opportunities for the sake of some team spirit or something. This calls to mind a great quote by Ayn Rand, “It stands to reason that where there is sacrifice there is someone collecting the sacrificed offerings; where there is service there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice and service is speaking of slaves and masters and intends to be the master.”
These fans want players and coaches to sacrifice their own interests in favor of the fans’, who will collect these sacrificed offerings in the form of a comforting myth that these coaches and players are part of a confederacy with the fans - what Kurt Vonnegut called “granfalloons”. They never were. They are part of a confederacy with the owners and administrators AGAINST the fans.

Taking the Texas job was not wrong. Coaches make changes. It happens.
However, everything about his response to that question was indeed wrong. The answer itself; the holier than thou attitude.

lol. What about the part where he said, “ I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn't changed in my mind.”. Because he had already taken another job.

I have not seen this anywhere. Just did a quick search. Do you mind linking? All the “Jim Schlossnagle comments on Aggie fans” searches return articles from two days ago about the fans getting into it with Florida’s dugout.

What kind of man would leave his family for Texas A&M?

These reporters ask about an obviously very private matter and feel like their entitled to an answer. They don't "have to" ask the question because they're "just doing their job". No coach is ever going to answer the question, so why even ask it.
