May 2, 1928 | A funeral is held for Mex the Dog, who served as the OU mascot from 1919-28 and wore a red sweater with a white letter 'O' on the side. Old Mex was so beloved that the university closed for his funeral. He was buried in a small casket under the existing stadium.

Old Mex was succeeded by Ruf-Tuf, a bulldog who served as mascot for three football seasons starting in the fall of 1928.
Boomer, a brindle pup more nimble and adept at mascot tricks, came along in 1929.

Nov. 30, 1963 | In head coach Bud Wilkinson's final game at Memorial Stadium, running back Jim Grisham broke the school rushing record with 218 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 34-10 win over Oklahoma State. Wilkinson's home record was 69-10-1.

Sept. 26, 1953 | NBC broadcasted the 1953 season opener between No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 1 Notre Dame in the first live nationally-televised game played at Memorial Stadium (28-21 ND win). It was also the first time the nation's No. 1 team visited Memorial Stadium.
