Let’s have a fun Sat morning thread.

Based on pure associative judgement. In some cases they went to school there, in others the band supports the school, in others it’s a close association with the alumni.

(Note: edits made as feedback comes in)

UGA - Widespread Panic. But love me some R.E.M. and James Brown
USC - Hootie & the Blowfish
UF - Tom Petty, sure. Skynyrd would have been better, but BAMA
Bama - Hank Williams
Auburn - Jimmy Buffett
Tennessee - Kenny Chesney
Kentucky - Chris Stapleton
Texas - Kinky Friedman
A&M - Robert Earl Keen
Oklahoma - Toby Keith
Ole Miss - Robert Johnson
MSU - Blind Melon
LSU - Better than Ezra
Mizzou - Sheryl Crow
Arkansas - Levon Helm
Vandy - :(

Bonus:
UVA: Dave Matthews Band
RISD: Talking Heads
Vermont: Phish
Tuskegee U: The Commodores

Would be so awesome if we could ever get some of these guys to play halftime shows in the Fall

Garth Brooks and Cross Canadian Ragweed are Oklahoma State people.

OU is/was Toby Keith...

LSU - Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks was a scholarship athlete at Oklahoma State (track).

A song about Baton Rouge does not associate him with LSU.

He's in the Oklahoma State Hall of Fame

Cross Canadian Ragweed was based in Stillwater, OK; not Norman.

Eww.

While not bands and not something I do or would listen to today I'd definitely go No Limit first if I had to pick from the metro. If I could expand to 100 miles I'd pick NIN.

Auburn - iPhone ring tone inventor
Pretty sure Tim had nothing to do with the ring tone, but he did grow up (Robertsdale, AL) not far from my hometown (Fairhope, AL) where Jimmy Buffet spend part of his childhood before attending (and subsequently failing out of) Auburn University.

James Brown did play a halftime show at UGA in the early 80's.

I'd link it but the production value is garbage and is kinda embarrassing. Similar to the Dolly Parton situation at UTk (last year?) These things never seem to work out, except for the Super Bowl because the production is planned many months in advance with millions of dollars in the production budget for it.
