We are on one network and locked into ABC/ESPN. The Big Ten is on 3 networks. The viewership there is going to crush us. I’m pretty sure they’re making tons more money as well. Didn’t CBS end up paying more for 3rd tier Big Ten rights than we asked for for our primary rights?

Surely we didn’t get embarrassed in the latest TV deal right?

Slive and his 'brain-trust' of negotiation 'specialists' actually 'forgot/missed' placing an escalator clause in the espn/disney contract ! i.e. the contract was signed BEFORE the SEC added TX & OK ! HOW could this group of morons be so ignorant ??

There are some instances when being first works against you. B1G learned from the good and bad of our TV deal.

ABC and CBS are two different networks. The SEC isn't on CBS anymore.

The SEC signed it's deal two years before the Big 10. The Big 10 also greatly increased it's value by adding teams. There are 18 schools in the Big 10.

It’s us giving other conferences a chance to stop being bitches.

Magnanimity and humility and all that.

I know theres going to be tons of people tuning into the CBS 2:30 matchup between Wisconsin and Indiana compared to an Auburn Florida or LSU vs Oklahoma type games the SEC will have on at 2:30 on ABC.

NBC will have Notre Dame on for all of their home games then you will get great matchups like Minnesota vs Maryland or UCLA vs Iowa

Fox will have the best BIG 12/Big 12 game on at 12 noon eastern every week. Those games will do will but most SEC fans prefer their games to be in the afternoon or under the lights

I don’t care for the Big 10, but they have enough teams to bring eyeballs. 5 of the top 12 most watched programs in CFB last year were Penn State, Michigan, USC, tOSU, & Washington. Oregon’s up there too.

But we have cultural and geographical purity - almost.

We should go after UNC and Va. Tech, seriously.

Which is why we are keeping it at 8 sec games for the foreseeable future.

We will be fine.

It was the right move to not give espn what they wanted up front. It will cost them.

I don't like having all tv rights locked up with one network...especially when that network is a rapidly declining ESPN/ABC. I was looking forward to finally seeing my Longhorns on "SEC on CBS"...doh!

SEC and CBS couldn’t swallow their pride and make a deal. The SEC on CBS was a match made in heaven and owned the 2.30 time slot.

SEC wanted more money and a huge deal and said “we’re the SEC and the premier conference, you need to pay us.” CBS said “part of the reason you’re so popular is because of our partnership and we put you in the best Saturday slot nationally. We helped make you the most dominant conference so cut us a deal.”

Both parties dug their heels in and no deal got done. At least that’s how the guys in my morning show described it but they seem pretty connected to SEC headquarters.

And now we’re stuck with ABC/ESPN only which I agree is not ideal.

1) Sankey didn’t do his due diligence, should of negotiated with more than just espn(espn buys rights and resells some broadcasting rights to games for more than they payed and that’s money the conference lost)
2) the big tens pay out seems higher bc they are selling 9 games instead of 8
3) west coast market(having good brands in late windows with no competition is easy to sell to advertisers)

Games I want to see will be televised and our program is getting paid. I’m good with it.

One word - Stankey.

Mike Slive was too smart for this stupid stuff. All SEC schools got a major raise when Missouri and Texas A&M were added.

Fox was already married to the big1t8en -

CBS for years refused to renegotiate our SEC deal - especially after the 2012 expansion - and was paying far below market value - so the bad blood was already in the water between the two -

ESPN gave the SEC everything it asked for especially with regards to the SECN - which if everyone is being honest - is the standard for conference networks especially streaming options - including the Fox produced big1t8en eyesore -

the over-the-air ABC being added to the cablescript ESPN channels/SECN will finally give the SEC 3 windows to showcase games all day on Saturdays as opposed to what was the lone CBS 330 window -

NBC was the only other real alternative and they're longitme golden dome goose ND football wasn't gonna play second fiddle to the SEC - so the big1t8en offered to be sloppy seconds on that network

the SEC will be more than fine now on over-the-air ABC for 2 & 3 games each weekend - ratings will reflect such -

now production quality is another matter - but the ratings and $$$ will not suffer -

Mike Slive was the one one who engineered the long-term CBS deal, which became the most undervalued deal in sports history.

He was sitting at the helm when CBS refused to change its contract with the SEC with the additions of A&M/Mizzou, while ESPN did.

Pretending like Mike Slive didn’t sign his fair share of short-sighted deals in the modern era is complete idiocy.

Explain but start with #2, I’m especially curious to hear how big isn’t selling nine conference games to the sec’s eight.
