They're going to take football out of the university. A separate entity will run football teams and license the logos and play on-campus. Players will not have to be students. You'll see. It's going to change very quickly.
Then what’s the point?

This is a myth, can’t limit offcampus opportunities for players, including fan driven collectives.
This is true now but generally speaking if they're contracted employees, their employee can put stipulations on endorsements in the contract.

Cynically, I get this. But if we're being honest, these kids were not really going to college anyway. They superficially majored in Communications and left before getting an otherwise worthless degree.
The whole thing has been a facade forever.

Who laughed at what? It's hard to keep up with all the umbrage taken OTR.

True, but what team is going to enforce that?

They can't put a salary cap on NIL.
Sure you can. All NIL money goes to the team. If money is caught going outside of that then there are penalties.
Another way is that there is a total cap put on NIL by team. If x number of players are making over the allowed amount they will not be able to play, take less, or pay a luxury tax. That tax would be distributed among other conference members.
Lots of ways to do this.

Actually you can. Have you ever heard of a noncompete?

Just cut DEI programs
Bingo. UF saved $60 million, AND no longer has to hire unqualified people to meet quotas. Huge fricking win all around.

This is a blatant lie about 99% of student athletes on any campus.

Except when viewing this through an major P5 football/basketball program lens, then it makes sense.

Banned by the FTC starting in September. SCOTUS will reinforce the ban within a few years, I'd imagine.

last year Ohio State had 135+ employees in their athletic department making over 100K
they are expecting major layoffs and that is at well funded school

So I can expect to see Lebron James in both Nike and Adidas?
Come on. Use your head.

Do programs shed the Revenue sports and set themselves and the students as employees? If so, that opens up the insurance side of things and any logistics that come with the corporate world.
The HR people will be getting worked beyond their imagination. Can you imagine the shenanigans 18-23 year old athletes will be getting htemselves into as Employees?

That has nothing to do with noncompete, really. Noncompete is about legally forbidding an employee from going to a competing company when they leave their original position.

Using established "college" brands to make more money, rather than starting from scratch the way other minor leagues have to

Get ready for college football rosters to slim down considerably.

This paying players mess and NIL is the biggest crock of BS I’ve ever seen in sports.
You left out the transfer portal.
All this has ripped the soul out of college sports for me. The emotional connection is all but gone.
