CFB is far too popular with far too much potential money involved to ever go away. Change beyond all recognition? Maybe...but people in their 70's and older would say that's already happened in some ways.

As far as university revenues and profiting on athletes. No different than 3M, Boeing, etc profiting on engineers. If they develop a patentable process/product, they forfeit rights to monetary gains as part of employment. It’s known when negotiating an offer.
Steering athletes towards particular area of focus is an issue. It’s an issue on both sides. Athletes entering college must have some idea of their interests and a career beyond football. Universities steering them otherwise are definitely at fault.
Most of these athletes will have no athletic career beyond college. NIL can definitely give them a leg up, but long term success is dependent on their college education.
