Why not keep going with Miami couldn’t be #1 because they lost to Florida

I get your point, but the simple reason is because Florida wasn't in the conversation.. it's stupid, but this was the thought process

You want to claim the NC? Be my guest.

It took Florida what, 60, 70 years to do what Georgia,LSU,Alabama,Auburn,Georgia Tec, TULANE,Ole Miss….am I forgetting anyone….oh yeah, Kentucky…..had done at least once and most of them had done it multiple times. It was the lack of air conditioning. Once AC was invented in the 1990s folks could move to Florida and they Finally won a conference championship. AC must not be working in the state now cause all 3 of them SUCK. May need a shot of freon cause it seems like all 3 programs are what they have been historically without no AC…. middle of the pack or worse.

What’s really funny about the AC argument is there were more people in Florida in the 1970 census than there were in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Kentucky….and AC was pretty available in the 70s…..and all of those managed to win a SEC title in the 70s ( not sure about LSU but surely, no?). It wasn’t AC or people it’s programmatic…..

I see little difference between these:

Georgia lost to #3 Auburn
Texas lost to #4 Georgia
Auburn lost to #5 Texas
Miami lost to #6 Florida

If Florida wasn’t in the convo, maybe they should have been.

And if the Top 6 teams only had losses amongst each other, then they truly were the 6 best teams.

Nebraska played 1 game against the Top 6 (0-1).
Miami (1-1) and Texas (1-1) each played 2 games against the Top 6.
Auburn (2-1), Georgia (2-1) and Florida (1-2) each played 3 games against the Top 6.

Auburn and Georgia had the best resumes out of the group, and Auburn beat them in Athens.

It’s honestly the biggest joke in the AP poll’s history since 1965 when they started awarding champs after the bowls.

There’s more NFL players from the state of Florida than anywhere in the country.

The ONLY reason this is true is because there are 22 million people in Florida (or whatever the number is. Per capita Georgia is tops for producing NFL Talent with Louisiana a close second followed by Alabama and Mississippi. Florida is fifth.

There are 23 million people in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Those 23 million people produce 4 nfl players while Floridas 22 million produces 1. It ain’t even remotely close. Per capita South Carolina almost matches Florida. NFL talent comes from Charleston to Vinton and From Dalton to Valdosta and it ain’t close.

BYU in 1984 says hello. Since you mentioned Nebraska's SOS and "cream puff" schedule in 1983, BYU played no ranked teams, only two of their opponents that season won at least seven games, and they barely defeated a 6-5 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl..

Yes, per capita and overall are two different stats. Very good. I was quoting total players. Thanks for the analysis.

2004 Oklahoma > Auburn

Oklahoma had the better resume to get in. From start to end of regular season, OU was #2. Sooners had the reigning Heisman winner and eventual Heisman finalist.

OU also had the better resume and didn’t play a 1-AA team. OU’s best win was over 11-1 Texas, shutting them out. Auburn’s best wins were against 10-2 teams in Georgia and Tennessee.

Despite the blowout, OU was very deserving more than Auburn.

Absolutely not. Oklahoma was a joke of a team that year that had to squeak out wins all against inferior opponents all year long.. Then they got thrashed in the bowl game, proving they were unworthy

Not to mention oklahoma was cheating their asses off. Hell, OK had their entire 2005 season removed from the record books. Oklahoma is a fraud and always has been

This thread has really been embarrassing for one program, and it’s not Florida. Hint: it’s auburn.

Absolutely not. Like nowhere close.

Using the AP poll before the bowl games:

Auburn had four wins against the AP Top 25 (#8 Georgia, #12 LSU, #15 Tennessee (2x))

USC had three wins against the AP Top 25 (#4 Cal, #9 Virginia Tech, #21 Arizona State)

Oklahoma had three wins against the AP Top 25 (#6 Texas, #22 Texas A&M, #23 Texas Tech)

Auburn played more games against the AP Top 20 as USC and Oklahoma combined.

The Sooners were a fraud in 2004 and were completely exposed in the Orange Bowl. It’s a damn shame we will never know who would have won between the two best teams, Auburn and USC.

In 1960, Florida was between Massachusetts and Indiana in population. It may have been the 10th biggest state but the population grew 78% between 1950 and 1960.

and you have to take into consideration that many of the people that moved to Florida in the 60s and started families-their children were turning 18 around the time Florida started having success in football.

.

Yes and a similar sized population, a little less than 5% larger, produces 4 times as many NFL players as Florida does. Why is Florida lagging behind so badly? If Florida was an actual producer of NFL talent 3 adjacent states and Louisiana would not, with 5% more people, produce 4 times the number of NFL players. Given the population Florida is 5th on the list….because they simply do not produce a lot of NFL talent compared to the rest of the south.

Keep telling yourself this if it makes you feel better.
Georgia owns AU and nothing will be changing. Saban leaving will probably give y’all a win or two against Bama in the next decade.
But,Kirby isn’t even 50 yet and loves what he does. And Georgia is a much more attractive destination school for top players. Why go to a cow college in no where S Alabama when you can live and play football in Athens.
But carry on, Nostradamus. Your predictions are amusing. They sure made me giggle
