You have to be a little bit on the spectrum.

Worth noting, these 16 programs have combined to only achieve this feat 83 times…. And 30% of the time it happens, it results in a National Title (25 times).

What obscure fact will we find next to make it look like our football program is better than yours?

sorry thats BS. SC beat UT and Clemson back to back to end the regular season. Beating teams when they are ranked in the top 10 should matter more.
A team like Vandy is going to struggle to be on this list because if they do beat a top 10 team they sure as hell wont finish as one. Bama on the other hand can beat a top 10 team and that team could stay inside the top 10.

They should absolutely not. Don’t know how many Preseason Top 10 and Top 25 teams end up being terrible and never deserving of their preseason ranking? A LOT.

These lists/threads are great. They are solid talking points when bringing them up to on-air local radio talent. Keep them coming!

but again they are going to skew things heavily. Vandy will never make this list. A loss to them would drop a team almost out of the top 25.

Good stuff 789. Keep um coming.

Moral of the story: Don’t lose to Vandy.
Also, don’t put too much stock in a win against an opponent t who lost to Vandy.

Viewing it differently. Saban is truly the goat.
Saban - 11 seasons
Johnny Vaught - 4
Fulmer - 4
Stoops - 3
Bryant - 2
Mack Brown - 2

It really shouldn’t bc the final rankings show how good that team actually was and ranks them accordingly.

This is surprising. Especially considering, in the case of Auburn, that Tuberville and Gus both had 3.
I do think it’s obvious that it’s easier to achieve nowadays because we play so many more games. A national title winning team has been playing 15 games the past few years compared to like 10-11 back in the old days.

That would be the vast majority of all seasons played for most teams. Bama has 28 such seasons and likely have the fewest.
As for most total GAMES played against Final AP Top 10 teams (wins or losses), only 9 times ever has a team now in the SEC played at least 5 games against the Final AP Top 10:
Florida (1987,1999)… Arkansas (2006)… Missouri (2012)… Tennessee (2013)… Auburn (2017)… LSU (2019)… and Alabama (2023) each played five games against the Final AP Top 10.
Auburn (2019) played six games against the Final AP Top 10 which has got to be an all-time record for any team.

Nick Saban GOAT status - confirmed.
Again.
