But "smug arrogance" essentially expresses insecurity by displaying an outer appearance covers the fact the deep down... you might not be as good as you think you are

I don't think I agree with that. Confidence is ALWAYS viewed as smug arrogance by fans of another team. Many have accused Bama fans of being smugly arrogant over the years too. They weren't insecure, they were just the lead dog and they knew it.

With Saban gone, UGA is in that spot now. We're confident we're the top dog in football right now, but others view it as us being smug and arrogant rather than just confident in where we stand.

When fans think they might not be as good as they think they are, their arrogance isn't smug. It's more of a defensive arrogance. To reach smug you aren't just claiming you're better, you truly believe it.

What you're talking about is more the Bama fans who are now aming trash talk at UGA in other threads. They don't really believe they're better than UGA, so their arrogant posts come across as whiny and defensive, not smug.

UGA's responses to those Bama fans are the definition of Smug Arrogance. We don't "think" or "hope" we're going to be better than Bama. We firmly expect to be better. Even if we lose the game, we will still believe we're the better team and will win the national title despite losing to them in a somewhat meaningless regular season game.

It comes from confidence in our team, not insecurity in our team.

The last time they were on the field together Bama seemed to be the better team
