the damage is the worst on:
1. flat land
2. land heading up a mountain on the side where the storm came/comes from
So basically any storm in the south United States is heading east, or more accurately, ENE
So if your property is on the west side of a mountain or an area within a mountain/hill range that is elevating as the wind moves east to ENE, you are more at risk
if you're on the east side a mountain or hill, you are somewhat protected
we've all seen entire western sides of wooded mountains combed over like God had a brush and hair gel
