Texas Longhorns' rivalry vs. A&M is based on "respect"... vs. OU is based on "anger"

So says Texas asst. athletic director, Bill Little.
Texas A&M is Texas' biggest rival overall; however, Oklahoma is Texas' main rival in the sport of football. I get it.
Arkansas comes in at #3, according to Little. I get it.
After next year, I'm wondering if any of the above will begin to change, especially competition to the status of Oklahoma being the 'Horn's most hated.
Any suggestions as to which other SEC team might overtake Texas' target of most hated in the coming years? Arkansas? LSU? Alabama? All of 'em???

Our traditional 3 rivals won't change. But among SEC teams I think things will heat up with LSU pretty quick.

There is nothing true about that statement. There is real malice between the schools that doesn't end when the clock strikes zero.

Bama should watch out or the sips will destroy their athletic department like they did Nebraskas. It was the strict limits on partial qualifiers (championed by the sips) that destroyed Nebraska. Not sure what rule change will undermine Bama. Probably something to do with NIL

You are so full of shite. They were outvoted 11-1 on partial qualifiers. You and everyone else besides Nebraska voted with us.

Who gives a frick . What are you the emotion forecaster.
Sometimes its better to be quiet and let them think you're a fool than to open your mouth and prove them correct

“Big meanie bully tee yew is EVIL!”
“Why, what’d they do?”
“They always pick on us and inflate all of their records when we were a military school!!”
“Isn’t your football program’s only title from when you were a military school? Don’t they have a pretty convincing W-L record against a&m in all sports since 2000? Were you a military school then?”
“No! But… they’re big lousy cheaters whenever it comes to business! They ruined our sacred handshake deal!”
“Didn't yall vote in-step with Texas during your time in the big 12 on almost every issue?”
“Yea. But… they always had nefarious intentions and were doing whatever they could to keep the sleeping giant down that is the FIGHTIN’ TEXAS AGGIES!!!”

Never change, ags. The boogeyman rhetoric is always good for a laugh on this site lol

Based on respect? Sounds like a pretty lame rivalry if true. I've never gotten that vibe though. I think the two fanbases genuinely dislike each other.

That's the dumbest fricking thing I've heard in a long time. I question this man's sanity. The aggie rivalry is important..but I don't think respect has a god damn thing to do with it.
I do agree that in all sports, other than football, aggie is our most important rivalry...I just don't see anyone surpassing Oklahoma in football, however. Time will tell.

yeah if anything it's the opposite... i hate OU but I have to respect them for what they've done. TAMU is just the annoying little brother, no respect involved.

I agree and disagree with this statement.
Texas vs OU = mutual respect for the opponent and until recently, most Longhorns and Sooners don’t cross paths in the real world. Lately, a lot of Texas kids have been going to Oklahoma and Arkansas..
Texas vs A&M is more of a water cooler rivalry.. Both sides know a lot of people on the other side.. Good friends.. family.. co-workers.. There is hatred on gameday.. but it’s mostly good natured ribbing..
One aspect that has played a big role is that the Texas and Oklahoma game has historically had a national impact.. Both teams have been ranked a lot when that game rolls around.. Numerous games where both are in the Top 10-15.
It is rare for both teams to be ranked in the Texas vs A&M game. Perhaps that is because it is later in the season.. idk. Less than 10% of the games if I remember right.. and I can’t think of one where both were in the Top 10.
When one is good.. the other is usually down.

Apparently the asst. athletic director is stupid.

We aren’t even going to play each other until at least 2026

Texas vs A&M Stats
Texas 37-8 when ranked
A&M 15-8 when ranked
Texas 6-3 both ranked
Texas 37-17-5 neither ranked
only 9 games out 118 where both teams were ranked.. when that changes.. idk what happens
only once has there been a top 10 matchup
1975
#2 A&M went to 10-0 after beating #5 Texas 20-16
They then got pummeled by Arkansas. Thanks Hogs!
and then they lost their bowl game.
Texas 27-3 when TX ranked Top 10
A&M 7-5 when A&M ranked Top 10

Let me expand on your post.
Both teams have finished the season ranked in the final AP poll only 11 times. Only once did both finish in the top ten (1941).

So that's why Texas Exes in the State Legislature blocked every attempt by A&M to acquire a law school for over 20 years...mostly good-natured ribbing.
