He's saying being a runner up in the title isn't that much better than a final four run... I'd tend to agree that a formula for "modern ranking" should award consistency and I'd probably reduce the scaling generally. Fans want titles so they can print the shirts but consistent deep runs show how "good the program is" overall.
Something like the below would differentiate a lot between teams that have shown consistent ability to get deep into the postseason vs. a team that doesn't or just has one deep title run with a lot of inconsistency:
1st Round: 1 point
2nd Round: 1.5 points
Sweet 16: 3 points
Elite 8: 6 points
Final Four: 9 points
Runner-Up: 11 points
National Title: 15 points

It’s no surprise that an Alabama fan doesn’t think Sweet 16s and Elite 8s are impressive. No surprise at all
Because they arent impressive. Do we celebrate top 16 finishes in any other sport...nope

Who has a better football program of these three teams since 1985: Colorado, Oregon, or Georgia Tech?
Two of the most important metrics in gauging long term strength of a program are weeks in top 25 and top 25 finishes in football.
