Can anyone explain Alabama fans’ infatuation with using French heritage as an insult?

Something that I’ve always noticed is Alabama fans, while American, really do not like the French. Reading through a thread from yesterday, I noticed this phenomenon again. Keep in mind, of all fanbases, it’s only one that seems to have this in their arsenal of insults.
Now unless I was taught history wrong, the French are America’s oldest ally. America exists largely in part to the France coming to the aid of the Continental Army. And while they were not prepared for Germany’s blitzkreig (like most of Europe), they certainly didn’t lie down - losing a whole generation of men and also having the second most European casualties behind Germany in earlier WW1. Millions of men who died for their nation.
So back to the original question, was something different taught in the Alabama public school system that made them grow such a disdain for Frenchmen? This seems to be solely a Bama fan thing so I’m curious.
“French blood” is the phrase I keep seeing uttered by these history buffs so a quick board search, only goes back to last fall, yielded these results

It's funny because Alabama was once a French territory.

There is a lot of make fun of LSU fans over.
Alcoholics, overreactive, BR kinda sucks, hell even the corndog thing if you believe it
But I’m trying to figure why it’s only them who have this disdain for France and making France synonymous with being “weak” despite history telling another story.
quote:
According to historian Niall Ferguson: "of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in 50 – more than Austria (47) and England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387 BC, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10", making France the most successful military power in European history—in terms of number of fought and won.

Use your words, Alabama fan. Not your copy and pasties. What made the French weak? Soley WW2?

And LSU fans here give Alabama fans hell about talking about the 1960’s. Living in the past they scream. But 387 BC? That is different.

You have to keep in mind that the state of Alabama has been beset with hookworms for most of its history, you can see the effect on many of our esteemed tRant posters.

Why do Alabama fans have such disdain for our oldest ally? I’m glad you responded in the thread - basically adding merit to it. But I’m interesting in the knowing why now.

I don’t know. You tell me. I just know if it weren’t for England and the United States they would be speaking German right now.
Why have they become so prone to throwing down their weapons and surrendering? It is nature or nuture?

Its an old stigma, the story tells it that the French were cowards, the irish were drunks, the germans were racist etc.

Yes and us badass Americans defeated the redcoats all by ourselves. I had a poster of Nathaniel Greene and Benedict Arnold in a tank in my old bedroom.

I felt no disdain towards the French prior to finding this forum, just no respect. But now I do have disdain.

It’s not just Alabama fans, you just seem super sensitive to what Alabama fans say.
People have openly mocked the French as weak and cowardly since WWII.

Since you love France so much, you need to brush up on your Arabic. That is what they will be speaking there in 20 years. Maybe less.

This thread is the best fight a Frenchman has put up for over a century.

Well on here, it kinda is

I’m well aware it’s mainly a cliche by historically ignorant Americans. I was just wanting our SECr Bama fans to articulate why since this is such a go-to zinger.
Honestly, the one Bama fan who straight up said “I don’t know” gave me all the satisfaction and laugh I was looking for in this thread.

You have to understand the posters who represent Alabama here.
I think Donald Trump said it best:

When Alabama sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing actual morons. They’re bringing low IQ hot takes. They’re simpletons. And some, I assume, are good people.
