Since some Tennessee fans can't read well and/or don't want to see the evidence of what I'm posting, here is the cliff-notes version.
1 - Collectives are boosters by the NCAA definition last updated in 2000.
2 - Any restriction an individual would have would also be in effect for a collective.
3 - The state of Tennessee sued the NCAA yesterday to make it so NIL deals are allowed to induce players to attend a certain school as part of the NIL contract.
4 - This means UT is likely being investigated/charged with allowing NIL deals with inducements to attend Tennessee.
5 - That inducement bylaw is the only existing NCAA restriction on NIL deals (though individual states have extra rules).
6 - I think it's good if that rule gets enforced. I believe it will fix most of the NIL issues we see.

Tennessee’s former head coach still has a show cause in effect because Tennessee coaches were paying players and recruits cash. Based on that, I could have guessed that the NCAA was watching Tennessee a little closer than some others.
And what do you know, Tennessee turns around and gives impermissible benefits again.
And for all the “it won’t stand up in court” folks, membership in the NCAA is voluntary and is regulated by the members.
Even if everyone else is doing it, Tennessee if fricked because they just got caught handing out Mcdonald’s bags of cash.
This is bold by White. But probation violators that scream at the judge after breaking their parole usually don’t fare well.

I can't stand Tennessee but there's a big part of me that really likes how they're taking it to the NCAA.

The NCAA just got finished telling Tennessee to make sure that all staff are fully trained to follow NCAA regulations..
When Donde Plowman cited the new "institutional control" label assigned by the NCAA, it spoke volumes about some staff ignoring NCAA recruitment guidelines associated with NIL involvement.

Last I checked, the other schools don't have board members for their athletic foundations also on these "collectives", so no Mr. White, it is not the same everywhere.

Not really. There should be a separate entity for power 5 schools. They couldn’t be any more different.
And just because they have representation from schools, doesn’t mean it’s working. It needs to burn and be rebuilt.

I would’ve agreed that the NCAA had ground to stand on as recently as last month.
Everyone is overlooking the fact the DOJ just joined action against the NCAA’s transfer portal rules. The plaintiffs primarily cite “limiting NIL potential” & leverage the reality of bidding wars in their argument.
Do we think the federal government is going to say that the NCAA cannot attempt to dampen bidding on potential transfers… but if they’re not enrolled yet — different story?

2 megaconferences won't change anything. The member schools will design their own rules and enforcement and will sometimes engage in the same sort of competitive targeting.
You will be disappointed if you think this will fundamentally work out differently. The incentives will prevent it.

That’s where you’re 100% wrong. A mega conference will only be schools that actually give a shite about football and will gladly pay their players. We don’t need to be under the same umbrella as Western Kentucky and Lipscomb.
