Maybe it got swept under the rug due to the Saban drama... But Auburn lost both it's coordinators and two of their best position coaches. I would not call them a dark horse, more like a 6-7 win team.

good OC from ole miss,
Who has never been more than a rb or wr coach in 16 years at Ole Miss? Love Derrick and wish the best for him but this is a jury is still out sort of thing.

They were a far cry from "2 of our best position coaches", just saying...

Given Hugh being actual OC & their prior history, this was his best (only?) chance to advance his career.

One other thing most people aren’t factoring in is that Auburn’s schedule is much easier than normal with the new format.
Comparing to last season…
We play Bama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Vandy, Arkansas, and Cal just like last season.
But we get Kentucky, Missouri, and Oklahoma instead of LSU, Ole Miss, and Miss State.
Ole Miss and LSU were both Top 12 or 13 teams last year… can Mizzou and Oklahoma both finish in the Top 13? It’s possible but doubtful.

16 years as a RB/WR coach. I really like Nix, but this is a little bit of a wild take. The man has been through 4 HC’s and never given a promotion to OC after all that time. Ole Miss has had a Co-OC spot open for over a month with the former TE coach/Co-OC going to ECU as their OC to call plays and manage the entire offensive operation. Why was Nix not given that Co-OC title after he left? He’s a good recruiter and good on field coach for the position he coaches. The guy you fired was a former Broyles finalist and HC known for his offenses and you think a career position coach will be better?
I understand he won’t be the play caller but to have him run the offensive operation throughout the week and game plan is not ideal. He’ll end up being thrown under the bus for bad offensive performances whether he calls a single play or not.

It's in his contract "playcalling autonomy" that's why he took the job vs just a title
I'm not saying it is not there...but I have to ask...how on earth does anybody know the specifics of a coaches contract like that?

Freeze will be calling the plays.

Don’t listen to him. He pulled that straight out of his arse.

2025 is our make or break year. Hoping 2024 if a much more fun team to watch, but we still have some roster limitations.

I agree while it may have been in a clause there is no way to enforce it. Nix was hired as a title only coach, but Freeze cannot run the entire team and handle the OC duties. Nix will have to come up with a large part of game plans and manage the offense throughout the week leading up to games. We’ll see how it goes

No offense to LSU fans, but they lost a Heisman winning QB and his best receivers and, until proven otherwise their defense is pretty bad.
I do think that Oklahoma is not ready make a splash, but MState? Kentucky is solid and the combination of Kentucky and Oklahoma is about equal to LSU and MState.
No disrespect meant toward any other teams, but to make a blanket statement like "much easier" schedule seems odd at best based on what we know of the teams and what they have lost. By the time the transfer portal is over you might be able to say that but not based off the rosters as they currently stand.

That's why Hugh will be calling plays. He already said that even before hiring an OC.

I suspected that. But in all honesty we all run around here acting like we know a whole lot more than we could possibly know. Myself included.

But Auburn lost both it's coordinators
Well, one of them thought it was a great plan to rush only 2 on 4th and 31 that lost the game on rivalry weekend (you may have heard about that). Plus, he was a complete a-hole to work with. The other guy, the OC, didn't align philosophically with the head coach who is known for his offense and play calling abilities.
So I think it's addition by subtraction.

and two of their best position coaches
Lol, in no way were Caddy and Zac Etheridge two of "the best position coaches". I'd love to hear your reasoning on naming those two guys "best" other than "they're Auburn guys".

We also have two 4 star receivers that are top 150 players. It's an elite WR class.

I would predict you to be good this year and I assume there is a good quarterback in the portal or something.
Don’t kill me for saying this but Auburn seems to always do well when they have low expectations, and crash when you are picked to win big. Of course Ole Miss is the same
