BAMA: Downs’s father basically just said Bama got the death penalty with Saban retirement

The whole coaching staff is gone. Obviously, Nick Saban and his X-and-O wisdom and scheme, and playing for the G.O.A.T., and running his defense — he was the stabilizing force. Charles (Kelly) left (for Colorado and is now at Auburn). Pete Golding left (for Ole Miss). Saban retired. T-Rob (Travaris Robinson left Alabama for Georgia). Guys like Sam Petitto, he spent a lot of time with. Freddie Roach and Robert Gillespie are still there. But every coach he built a relationship with and taught him the defense, they all left.

I don’t think Kalen thought this was going to be a gut rebuild
If his dad is saying this, I would imagine the exodus is not done.
Either no one wanted to follow Saban and declined the opportunity and Byrne was stuck with DeBoer or Bryrne really fricked this up.

Well, at least there's something positive about what he had to say?

Really is in some sense. I wouldn’t say death penalty level but definitely setting the program back at least 2 year in recruiting.

Whatever the case and no matter who was hired, it was going to happen at some point. Saban could not coach forever.
Let's give De Boer at least 2 weeks LOL.

Unfortunately in this new era of transfer portal and NIL I think ALL programs are going to go through this at some point.

I'm sure it's difficult for Bama fans to fathom, but these top recruits chose to go there for Saban not for "Alabama".

LSU fans feel your pain in every way. We have been through this and saw first hand how hard it is replacing Saban. I think the irony is lost on most Bama fans. There might be another Saban out there but he isn’t coaching in college yet

Oh he is coaching, in Athens

That’s true for every program these days. Cult of personality HCs, NIL, and the transfer portal have completely changed what CFB was just a few years ago. And not for the better.

Got news for Downs, at a new school, he will be starting over as well with a whole new coaching staff.

Saban had no plan. He basically said it in his interview. The players felt insulted. This is not rocket science.

I am kinda shocked that a new coach is coming in with new systems and ideas… shocked I tell you.

This is why you have to either hire a Saban disciple or a phenomenal recruiter. The number one priority should’ve been keeping our current team together.

No Alabama fan here, but the situations were not exactly the same. When Saban left LSU for Miami (NFL), and Miles took over, there was no transfer portal. If a player transferred when Miles was hired, they had to sit out for 1 year unless they transferred down to D2.
Saban signed these players and given that the majority of Saban's roster were not Alabama HS ball players, those guys are now leaving to go somewhere else, probably one of their other top choices and maybe where they would have signed had Saban not been at Alabama.
The situation for LSU is more similar to O getting fired and BK coming in. LSU was at 39 Scholarships for the Texas Bowl (I think 41 or 42 were still on scholly but those extra 2/3 were not eligible for academic progress towards their degree if I remember correctly).
My guess is Bama is going to have to hit the portal in the spring window and bring in 10-15 players.

And they are transferring to schools for cash not the name on the front of whatever Jersey they end up with.

Those idiots thought players came to play at alabama...please, they came to play for Nick Saban!! Tuscaloosa is a cess pool with nothing around it to bring in recruits without Saban there. You're done Bama, you're done!!!
