Kifen would be a solid hire for them. It won't scare me, but it'd be a good bet for them. Kiffen and Sark are the 2 that are most ready-made to step in and keep things rolling and still be a major player immediately. Sark is already out and kiffen doesn't seem to be very high on their AD's list for whatever reason.
If it isn't kiffen then whoever they hire, be it Deboer, dabo, schumann, rees, or whoever...isn't going to bother me one bit. Demeco Ryans would be a grand slam but I don't see any reason why he'd be interested.

Not that i care, but I cant think of anything more disrespectful to Saban than to hire Kiffin as his successor. Youre right, itd be a descent hire, but Kiffin is the same guy that basically lost Saban another title when Saban had to fire him a week before the national championship game. Not to mention , the immature and entitled Kiffin has been shitting on Saban and trolling him like a child ever since.

Also, i heard a crazy stat on an interweb podcast today. Check this out:
Lane Kiffen, in his entire college coaching career at Tenn, USC, and Ole Miss, is 1 and 19 against teams that finished the regular the season with 9 or more wins. One and Nineteen!!
That’s absolute garbage right there. And looks even worse when you look at the absolute bums who have a better record than him in that same stat department

1-19? Man, we thought Richt had a bad record against top 10 teams. Norvel didn't seem a home run replacement. I guess Bammers have accepted they are not going to find anyone that can replace Saban. I'm sure the hope is that the brand that Saban created keeps the recruiting pipeline running and heir is good enough to keep that rolling and call x and o's. It seems like Sark would be the guy but would he leave Texas for Bama?

that is crazy, but the more I think about it and ever so casually look into it, it seems a bit more sensational that is REALLY is.
-What he did at USC is kind of irrelevant to me so I throw that out. You may not, which is cool, but it jsu tisn't relevant to me.
-He was at UT for 1 season. How did Kirby (and saban for that matter) do at their first year on the job? Again, a one-year sample size is a throwaway to me. So we essentailly are just looking at his HC career at ole miss:
-2020 was a covid year so it would've been virtually impossible to beat someone that ended the regular season with 9 wins
-2021 they won 10 games including over Arky and aTm teams that were ranked in the top 15 at the time. Arkansas ended the year with 9 wins
-2022 they really didn't have any kind of signature win to speak of
-Thsi year they beat a PS team that ended with 10 wins.
The caveat of "regular season" 9 wins seems a bit odd to me to make it sound worse. How many teams are you reasonably going to play in a given year that will finish 9-3 or better? Probably not many, maybe a couple at most. And considering the inferior programs he's been at it shouldn't be surprising that he'd lose to most of em.

I’m drinking beer at a Mexican restaurant and espn on tv says at the bottom that “DeBoer in contract negotiations to be Alabamas next head coach”

DeBoer can obviously coach, but this has serious Brian Harsin vibes all over it
A milktoast dull geeb dweebler that sticks out like a sore thumb culturally and has no clue how to fit in or navigate in the dirty South

Great hire for all of us.

yeah I really don't hate this at all. Also how much of his success is due to the geriatric Penix? The reason he's as hot of a name as he is is mainly because of the last 2 seasons having a heisman caliber QB in a somewhat weaker league (although this year it was pretty solid). How will he do with a major downgrade at the position coaching in a much tougher league?
ETA: Also how much of him being the new hot name is due to the recency bias of playing for the natty? Like let's say he splits the series with oregon this year and misses out on the playoffs...is he still the big hot name in the coaching search?

And with the expectation that if he doesn’t beat Freeze and also make the 12 team circus in year 1, he’s basically on the hot seat?

Other way around. Penix's success is due to DeBoer. People on this website have been talking up Penix like he's the next Patrick Mahomes or something. He isn't that damn good. He was in a great system.
DeBoer is great at dialing up the downfield passing game. His offense fits Milroe's skillset like a glove. I'll be shocked if DeBoer flops there and I actually thought he was going to be in play for the Seahawks job after Carroll resigned.

You might be right.
But you also sound like every talking head on the tv/interweb right now talking up this hire as if it’s a done deal perfect slam dunk Bear>Saban>DeBore trilogy of dominance
Hmmmm. Not directed at you. But hmmmmm….. It’s almost like they are obviously panicking and coping in the aftermath of a cash cow that lined their pockets for so long retiring
Hahahaha this is awesome

I obviously don't think he'll be Saban, and he won't be Kirby, but he's a really good football coach. He has won everywhere and seems to be really innovative offensively. I also think the improvement Penix made is going to attract a lot of future transfer portal QBs.
Again, I don't think he's going to be on the Saban or Kirby level, but I think he'll get at least one national title there. They'll have a year where the stars align with a stud QB and multiple top tier WRs where they just outgun everyone like they did in 2020.

I agree with all of that. Which is why I’m rejoicing
