With nothing to play for they went 10-2 in his second year and finished 6th in the country, including knocking off prime Oregon in Eugene (and possibly preventing them from making the Natty). Before the wheels fell off with their lack of depth in 2012.
He also made Florida Atlantic relevant. Two 11-3 seasons and they have since returned to mediocrity.
He then made Ole Miss relevant again and just guided them to their best season ever.
He changed the way Alabama football play offense in 2014.
His credentials and recent coaching history especially point to a coach at the absolute height of their powers. He would be nearly as big a slam dunk in 2024 as Saban was in 2007.

I am for Kiffin BUT Nobody compares to Saban.
I am almost certain Kiffin will win a National Championship or two at Bama. He has been a coaching nomad for awhile now but he will stamp his legacy at Alabama.

Would be shocked if it’s Kiffin. Dude embraced the college lifestyle a little too much here. No way the final decision makers have forgotten. Hope I’m wrong tho.

He messed up USC pretty bad after their dynasty.
Why do you keep saying this when you know better? USC was under probation during his tenure; he could not recruit. His last year he simply ran out out roster depth. Then he came to Saban and learnt what coaching was all about; it was not just fancy formations and 70 yd TDs but being a program director and a CEO.
He may still may not be a complete product but he is on his way.
With the platform Alabama can provide him he cannot help but win. I think he’ll do more than that.
Why do you think he wants this job so badly? It’s because he knows Alabama can take him to career heights he’s always aspired to but hasn’t been able to reach.
It’s all upto Saban now, if he rubber stamps the hire, it’s all over.

Can’t deny that he’s matured. A little. I’m sure he’d slob many a knob to get the job as well. But he’d also be most likely to peg Big Al at the 50 yard line during halftime of the spring game. What a day.

Give that guy a couple more years of seasoning and I think he is top of the list.
Well, let’s hope we’re not already looking for another coach in a couple of years.

Nothing much, Lanning is only 37 but he’s done a good job so far at Oregon
Yes...but the question is how many other coaches could have done the same thing with the roster he inherited

I think Alabama would hire Lane Kiffin without hesitation...
...if Joey Freshwater didn't exist.

Lanning has had as much or more success in two seasons as a HC than Kiffin has had in 15. Would much rather have Lanning between the two. I do like Kiffin and think he would do solid here, not sure he'd win a NC.
Agree with you about the Joey Freshwater thing.

He'd be a shoe in if he was still married to Layla. Alabama is still pretty conservative and an unmarried coach is viewed as risky.
I really don't mind his Freshwater period. Man was going through a divorce and surrounded by coeds that had no problem throwing themselves at him.
I still think he's the best man for the job.

I'm curious if Kiffin or Lanning either one could get Schumann out of uga ?

Im going to be disappointed if they dont hire Kiffin over some shite he did 10 years ago or because he has a young girlfriend.
This is 2024. No time to care about optics. Kiffin is a day 1 keep the train rolling slam dunk.
Everyone else is a mystery including DeBoer (what has he done without elite QB)
And Lanning (couldnt win PAC with a Heisman finalist and more talent than anyone in the PAC.
Kiffin at Bama would be a force. And fun.

Also Kiffin would never leave.
He's already tasted the NFL. He seems perfectly at home in the college game.
Lanning, DeBoer, etc. those guys are eventually going to get the call from the NFL and they may split at a moments notice.
Forget about shenanigans he pulled 10 years ago, and his hot girlfriend.
Dude... it's Kiffin.

Imagine wanting Kalen freaking Deboer and not wanting Lane Kiffin...
Lane wins the press conference and keeps the roster in tact. Brings in an elite recruiting staff. We keep rolling.
DeBoer is the biggest meh of all time. bUt lOoK aT hIs rEcOrD...Dabo has a great record as well but most of us understand that's not a good fit. Luke Fikell won constantly at Cincy. Would anyone want him? Jimbo won due to QB play. Chizik won due to QB play. Who's to say Deboer wouldn't go 8-4 next year at Wash with Will Rodgers? Then would anyone want him?
If it's Deboer I'd eventually warm up to it because I'm that big of a bammer but I just don't see it working out.

It's even worse because we just Witnessed the "hot name" West coast coach hire at Auburn and how quickly that went up in flames.
DeBoer doesn't have one single deep south recruiting connection or any other kind of connection.
Kiffin only lost to Alabama and Georgia at OLE MISS !

The biggest benefit to Kiffin imo, is I don't see NFL teams reaching out to him if he's successful. He may not want to go back to the NFL after his last experience.
College is turning into the pros without any free agency rules or contracts. I love cfb way more, but would rather be a coach in the NFL. Less work, no kissing teenage diva or helicopter parent asses, higher pay. I think you'll see Kirby meme the jump before too long .

Exactly.
Kiffin is a college coach now. Every fanbase secretly loves to hate him.
Hes such a perfect fit.
His ego would make him bullet proof to the pressure of replacing Saban.
Recruits would be banging at the doors to get in.
The only knock on Bama during Saban was what ? "No fun."
Something tells me Kiffin is a fun coach to play for.
This is such an obvious hire that im getting really worried Byrne is going to overthink this.
I mean Kiffin has Ole Miss nationally relevant in just a couple years, and just coached circles around James Franklin.
If you watched the game Kiffins team didnt just win, Kiffin coached circles around James.
This is a no-brainer slam dunk - just get it done hire.
