That was a very interesting take bamaoldtimer.

I posted in another thread concern about Big 10 scooping up GaTech quickly and quietly on a move to get FSU and Clemson. That would expand Big 10 right into their chief competition and give them a foothold in the largest city in southeast. If they also add Notre Dame - trouble.

So SEC may have to make moves of addition in defense and not offense in terms of revenue. Adding FSU, Clemson, and Tech would dilute school share in terms of what you get today, but maybe not as much as loss in existing revenue share if Big 10 got in Southeast competiting with brand and eyeballs.

But your scenario blows that theory up completely. Wipe the slate clean and cherry pick over the entire country. One thing there is who gives up power? I don’t see the Big 10 brass or SEC brass willing to cooperate to run off to form their own league. You go from 2 powerful commissioners … to one. And on down the line. Never underestimate the enticement and addiction of power to those that seek it. And anyone already in those high positions… sought it… like it… and want to keep it.

You are correct. Greed is the building block of capitalism. I’m a firm believer that when push comes to shove, the appropriate parties will enjoin and reach consensus.

There is a limited pie of money. Slice it up and see who gets less. The schools are on the losing end. The money cometh from alums etc or from the school athletic revenue generated or both. If the networks aren’t willing to negotiate higher payouts, then either the schools say no play for pay or find ways to increase revenue.

That’s my premise why SEC and Big Ten will one day talk

Merry Christmas!
