In Pittman year 4:

BYU is 5-6, 2-6 in the Big 12. Arkansas lost to BYU at home, giving up 38 points. BYU is averaging 21 points per game.

The 5-6, 1-6 in the SEC Miss State defense is giving up 27 points per game and held Arkansas to 3 points in a 7-3 win @ Arkansas.

6-4 Auburn beat Arkansas 48-10 @ Arkansas. Auburn ran for 354 yards, gained 32 first downs, and held Arkansas to 1-12 on third down. The next week, New Mexico State would hold Auburn to 65 rushing yards and go 6-12 on third down in a 31-10 win.

What’s the reason for this nosedive? Sam doesn’t know. Neither does our AD. If a reason could be given then MAYBE the fans would be ok with giving Sam another year.

What did our AD say? “Hey guys, we beat FIU and the players are excited to have Sam return! We will work hard to be better!”

No answers. No accountability. No plan. Another losing season to look forward to. Not acceptable.

Hiring Pittman to begin with was the mistake.

TLDR: Arkansas is a shite program accepting mediocrity.

The Florida game bought him another year.

At some point you just have to admit that Arkansas in the modern SEC is a really difficult job.

- 32 SEC seasons
- 15 winning seasons (less than half)
- 7 conference winning seasons (22% - less than 1/4)

I'm not sure what a reasonable expectation year-in and year-out at Arkansas is at this point. Better than what Pittman has put on the field this year, for sure, but overall? 8-4 average?

ETA: We aren't even mediocre.

Arky literally couldn’t do better.

This isn’t about one bad mistake, it’s about a decade of bad mistakes.

Don’t lose to a shitty Big 12 team at home.
Don’t lose at home by putting up 3 points against a D that gives up 27 points per game.
Don’t get stomped at home by a team New Mexico State can stomp.

The expectations are not high.

Yea I said this year was clearly not acceptable.

But in general, long term, what is the expectation?

The first part is nothing new.

The second part is what’s concerning. With the last 2 hires and now giving Sam another year we’ve clearly stopped trying. Admin has alway tried to at least give the fan base hope.

If Arkansas wants to turn things around, they'll need to move on from Pittman.

I think he is a good person and a good O-line coach, but he isn't what is needed in Fayetteville.

It doesn’t make sense to me. Pittman stays and everyone knows, barring a miracle, he will have a losing record next year and be canned.

Now tell me, how is a coach supposed to recruit when everyone knows this?
How is he supposed to get a quick turn around in the portal when everyone knows this?
How is he supposed to keep current players from jumping to the portal when they know this?
How is he supposed to hire an OC when they all know this? How does he keep his defensive staff intact knowing this?

The answer is no one will jump into this ship when people are already filling into the lifeboats. This isn’t a short term frick up this is a program killer.

8&4 average is about right.

Don't miss a bowl more than once per decade.

Contend for the West at least once per decade. (Or whatever will be comparable in the new format)

We need to fix our high school programs before we can expect better. We produced exactly one 5 star in the past decade. Mississippi, who has fewer people, produced 9. Alabama, who has 5.5 million to our 3.5 million produced 17.

Your program was nearly dead to start. This move is going to set the football program back another 4-5 years though.

They've already checked into Gus' buyout at UCF. Waiting a year saves them a bundle on both - Pittman and Gus

Small state population with a relatively low AA demographic make up. We are Iowa without the corn fed linemen.
