Good for him. Twitter is massively over-emphasized. You're better off without it.

I wish we as a fanbase were capable of moving on from a coach without going full nuclear mode on him.

Sam was supposed to be a bridge to get this program back to respectability. He needs to step away after this year.

I agree but I still think it's very possible we get to 6 wins. I was laughed at before the season for asking if Pittman should be on the hot seat if we go .500 again

Only reason he should be on it.

However, maybe this means he knows he is moving on?

The problem is they gave him a real contract, which means real expectations. He thought he could “aw shucks I’m just happy to be here,” with $6m+ a year.

Is this the biggest contract, no. But it’s not the bottom incentive based contract he started with trying to get us back to respectability. Had he stayed with the previous contract, we would be more accepting of his short comings (maybe).

I think if we don’t, it will be a travesty with all the actually talented skill players we have.

Sam is paid mid tier in the SEC. He'll be lucky to not finish dead last. Can his arse. He can't even get to .500 in SEC play when the conference is down.

I’ve been an ardent, “I don’t think Sam is the guy” person, but I can’t see him being fired after this year. He will have to step down, there are millions of reasons ($$$) not to do that for him.

We can only hope he puts together a line.

he isn't. He is in the bottom 1/4 I believe. He may even be 13th.

Correct, Arkansas has never proven they will pay big in football. People mention "muh Walmart money and muh JB Hunt money" but it isn't being spent on football coaches historically.

Maybe he just didn't want to pay the $8 to Elon?

I may be being naive but I can see Sam stepping down at the end of the season. He’s got plenty money to live easy and enjoy the rest of his life. He’s retiring to Hot Springs so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to consider he’d rather end his career in the state he plans to stay in as being still thought of fondly or at least not hated like many become after overstaying their time.

About four days ago, I wouldn't have believed that. For the record, I don't think he'll be fired. I just don't think he's cut out to be a head coach and the pressure that comes with it.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if his agent doesn't contact Yurachek and negotiates a buyout that's effective at season's end.

Not entirely true. In CBP's last year here, he was the 3rd highest paid coach in the SEC at 3.56 mil behind only Nick (6.1 mil) and Les (3.75 mil).

In Bret's last year he was the 6th highest paid coach in the SEC at 4.2 mil behind McElwain (4.5), Mullen (4.5), Gus (4.7), Sumlin (5.0), and Nick (11.1)

Our insistence on bargain hunting is a fairly recent development and probably stems from being burnt the last couple of times we propped our coaches' salaries up. I think the PTB are willing to pay handsomely for results but reluctant to overpay just to get a "proven" or "hungry up and coming" coach on campus.

Guys, we're 2-1. Lost to BYU mainly because of uncharacteristic mistakes and headscratching calls by officials. Yes, there were a couple of play calls that we'd like to have back that didn't work. That happens to every team. A couple of uncharacteristic bad punts also played a role.
Not saying there aren't problems, lack of experience overall on OL is glaring.
But let's let things play out a little longer this season before calling for heads to roll. It may be necessary, but it's still early.
