Awesome turn out in right field. So happy to get the season underway.
Like Saint said - bats need to wake up. Hopefully just first game jitters for some of the guys. Can’t win them all if you don’t win the first one.

The Crimson Tide kicked off the Rob Vaughn era in shutout fashion
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 17 Alabama opened the 2024 campaign with a 4-0 win over the Manhattan Jaspers on Friday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Alabama's offense wasted no time on Opening Day, plating a pair of runs in the first thanks to a throwing error by Manhattan. The Crimson Tide followed with another two-spot in the home half of the third, highlighted by doubles from TJ McCants and Ian Petrutz to move the lead to 4-0, the eventual final.
Ben Hess (1-0) picked up the win with a strong start, tossing 4.0 scoreless frames. He allowed just one hit and issued two walks while punching out nine, including the first six batters he faced. Hess turned the ball over to the duo of Hagan Banks and Braylon Myers who combined for six strikeouts over the final 5.0 innings to secure the shutout victory.
McCants led the offense with a 2-for-4 day that included the double, two runs and a pair of stolen bases. Evan Sleight also finished with two hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Our pitching was elite tonight. I told our arms that the starting pitcher really sets the tone for the whole game. (Ben Hess) did an unbelievable job, not just with the success he had, but in staying on the attack and setting the tone for what we're going to be – not only during this game but also for this year. He was absolutely outstanding, as was Hagan Banks. Then, (Braylon Myers) comes into a mess there and quiets it real quick while executing his pitches."

In an alternate universe Alabama has Holman, Hess, Denton, and Shelton all on roster.
That fricken Bohannon could recruit. Gotta give the degenerate bastard credit for that.

Oh look, second game of the season and we've already brought out the single camera behind home plate television broadcast.
We're up 2-0 in the second inning.
ETA: 5-0. McCants is looking like a strong pickup in the transfer portal. He's gotten four hits in five at bats.
We're super aggressive on the bases, too. We've stolen 3rd base in both games so far.

We are so poor.
I watched a Mississippi JUCO game yesterday with multiple cameras, as there are for every game.

Dude on BOL made some sense of this for today. We are televising basketball, baseball and softball games on campus today. Guess we don't have the resources to be spread that thin.

I doubt the basketball production had anything to do with not having a couple cameras available for baseball. Maybe softball got first dibs at them.

Pitching is solid. This may be the deepest pen we’ve had in a LONG time.

Run ruled them in the 7th.
3 freshman pitched and only gave up 1 hit.

Hartselle alum Coleman “Bull” Mizell with the pinch hit double. They made the comment that Rob Vaughn said he would be batting 3 hole next year. That boy can help this lineup this year, but is still built like a linebacker to cover the outfield. Superstar potential at the plate

Much lighter crowd today - but it was COLD so it’s understandable that the basketball crowd didn’t take advantage of the opportunity for free baseball. Great to see the bats wake up and great to see so many guys get playing time. On to game three tomorrow.

Alabama baseball secured the series with a 15-0 victory over Manhattan on Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. With the win, the 17th-ranked Crimson Tide improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Alabama's offense came out hot early, tallying a run in the first before a pair of four-run frames in the second and third inning. The Tide crossed another run in the fourth and posted a five-spot in the home half of the fifth to push the score to 15-0, the eventual final.
The Crimson Tide offense finished with 12 hits and eight walks on the way to 15 runs. TJ McCants and Mac Guscette led UA at the plate, both recording three-hit efforts. McCants went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, a pair of runs scored, one walk and a stolen base, while Guscette finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, a hit-by-pitch and a team-high four RBI. William Hamiter also contributed a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored off the bench.
Riley Quick (1-0) picked up the win in his first career start. The sophomore worked 3.0 innings, striking out five and walking one while not allowing a hit. Quick handed the ball off to the bullpen, with a collection of four arms combining for five punchouts while allowing just one hit and no walks across the final 4.0 frames.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"We didn't just go out and slug, slug, slug today – that's coming. The beautiful thing about today is that we were able to execute at a really high level. Some guys had really good days offensively just by battling through tough at-bats and taking what they were given. This has been a really good start to the year, but we have got to come out and finish tomorrow."

Best of luck to Antoine. Dude went through a lot here. A lot of guys would have hung them up by now.

Ok hear me out.
Instead of the all brick backstop, which is so popular that literally nobody else has it, at any level of baseball, we go with the dark/hunter green padding all the way around. With a script A behind the catcher and digital ad board with a pitch clock. Maybe add a “Roll Tide” or “where legends are made.”
The clock they have now looks like they pulled out of BDS that you could see from Lurleen Wallace.
