OU has had several athletes turned actors and a bunch of pro wrestlers.

Probably the coolest story is Wayman Tisdale. AA basketball player who took up the bass guitar after his pro career and ended up with a recording contract. One of the best selling jazz bassists in history and was held in high esteem by critics and his peers.

Cancer got him in the middle of his bass playing career or he might have become more legendary.

Mike Shannon. Played football at Mizzou for one year (under Frank Broyles), turned pro in baseball and had a long career for the Cardinals. Then, had a longer career as a baseball broadcaster.

Mike Shannon

Jeff Gaylord. All-American DT at Mizzou. Pro wrestler. Did all kinds of crazy things in his life, most of them not good.

Eryk Anders former Bama linebacker went on to be a pretty successful UFC mixed martial arts fighter. Not a champion but has had a pretty solid career.

Yep, Midnight Plane to Houston was Jim's version. Very familiar with the back story to that song. He got the line from Farrah Fawcett. She was dating Lee Majors at the time and was going home for a few weeks and was taking the midnight plane. He heard her say it and wrote the song. Whitney Houston's mom recorded it before Gladys and changed it to Midnight Train to Georgia because she said African Americans don't take planes. It had the same kind of R and B feel as Gladys' hit. I did not know Jim was a Rebel. Thanks for sharing. I think he knew Farrah through Lee because he played rec football with him.

I heard there was a stint where he moonlighted as a male stripper. Very expensive though. One show cost Tennessee millions.

You shouldn't include wrestling if you aren't including other sports. I know it's fake bit it still requires a certain level of size and athleticism. A large portion of pro wrestling has a background in athletics via football collegiate/Olympic wrestling bodybuilding mma etc. I'm ok with the rock being on here tho as he is an established actor

Yeah, you're not reading it right. If Bo Jackson had never played baseball at all at Auburn and went on to be a KC Royal, that's fine. My point was those athletes were already two sports stars in college and continued that into the pros.

I'm assuming no college has an amateur style professional wrestling type team. Actual amateur wrestling and pro wrestling share little in common.

Finally, pro wrestling is not classified as a sport. It's call sports entertainment and there is a reason for that.

Antonio Gates would be fine for example. He played basketball, not football, in college. Ironically, the reason he did not play football is because of Nick Saban. So even a sport is okay, as long as they weren't considered great at in college. Deion, Bo and Charlie Ward were already considered to have good odds to go pro in their lesser known roles in college sports.

During Texas' most embarrassing home loss (66-3 to UCLA in '98), QB Marty Cherry contributed by throwing 3 picks & was sacked 5 times while fumbling once.

It was his lucky day actually.. noted male fashion photographer Bruce Weber, who saw Marty's handsome mug on the televised UCLA debacle and had his assistants contact Cherry about a possible photo shoot. Cherry became a career male model with gigs for Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch etc..
