There are a lot of great athletes, entertainers, and titans of industry from GA.

I think you could make a case that Ivan Allen helped the state tremendously as mayor of Atlanta through the 1960’s. At a time when the entire south was experiencing bad publicity (some warranted some unwarranted), He managed to integrate the city without a lot of violence. His pro business stance and unwavering Christian character allowed for unprecedented levels of investment in the state and changed Georgia forever. He was also a very successful businessman and gave untold millions to ministries and charities. The only pronounced knock on the guy was he was a Techie.
