some bama fans will admit it, many others won't, but losing kirby/cochran did far more damage to their program than I think they want to come to grips with. Their defenses, their defensive recruiting, and their overall attitude as a program has not been the same the last 5 years as it was the first 10.
Our defense got better when Kirby left. Not that he wasn't excellent with us - he was - but losing him didn't cause us to miss a beat. With Cochran, on the other hand, I do believe you have a point. Our program overall has been less disciplined since he left, and I can see how the S&C coach plays a major part in instilling buy-in and discipline in players. Certainly I think he did when he was here, and I think we miss that now that he's gone.

That depends on what you mean by better.
In 2014, Kirby's defense gave up 1.8 TD's a game.
In 2015 (Kirby's last season at Alabama) the defense gave up 1.6 TDs a game. In 2016, (Pruits's first year) Alabama defense gave up 3TDs a game. Alabama's defense gave up only 1.1 TD's a game in 2017, though, so it definitely improved in his second season.
That said, Pruitt's defense also gave up 15 fewer yards a game in 2016. (approx.) So, it could be argued that it got better, but it also could be argued it got worse. It depends on if you want to go by TD's or yards per game.
