Oh, cool. So only 12 - 15 weekends a year to enjoy watching my team, and now they want to shorten each of those games by around 30 plays? In the name of safety?!?
Essentially they’re saying, “this game is unsafe so we’re going to ensure the players play less of it.”
Un-fricking real.

What do you think about having running banner adds on the sides of the screen, and even switching over the audio on kickoffs and PAT’s?

I stopped watching the NFL and I can easily stop watching college football too. between making the game shorter and this NIL bullshite, the game is ruined.

I think it’s only for the 1st and 3rd quarter citing the NFL does it. The nfl also does 12 minute halftimes, maybe we could of started there before messing with the rules.

I hate this so much more at the games when I'm not stuck in an uncomfortable seat and can spend that time getting a beer or some more wings.

I worked in advertising for a decade. Shortening the playing times of games would not, in and of itself, create more ad inventory.
Of course, if they kept the same block of tv time, and shortened the game, then obviously that combo would create more inventory.
It’s hard to imagine them keeping the same slotted tv time for shorter playing time and filling the difference with commercials. That would be intolerable. frick.

If they shorten the games and still keep the tv time slotted for 3.5 hours, there need to be riots in the streets.

The officials need to speed up their prior play review process. TV broadcasters accomplish it in a small fraction of the time the officials take. Fixing that would probably shorten the elapsed time of games (without reducing the number of plays) by more than all the other proposed changes combined.

There is nothing wrong with the length of games. It’s a great way to spend Saturday with the family.
