Like the reports you're referring to were that they expected one of Howard or Nuss to transfer if Daniels returned for a 5th year, with them leaning towards Nuss since Howard had 4 years of eligibility left. That was all speculation based on the depth chart and position battles. Howard leaving changes all that.

As things stand now, he'd have Rickie Collins and Colin Hurley plus any potential transfers.
Not sure Walker Howard was any more "proven" than those guys.
I'd agree that the situation certainly looks ripe for Nuss to stay and I absolutely hope he does but Howard deciding to transfer doesn't seem to be an 100% indicator of that like many LSU fans believe.
