Teams with legit shot to win CFP every year

Team talent composite discussion raised a good question: who are the teams with a legit shot to win CFP (not just get there). Teams have to have the right combination of resources, coaches and recruits.
UGA
Bama
LSU
Ohio State
Michigan
Clemson
Texas?
Oklahoma?
USC?
Any others? That is a pretty thin list.

I think Florida and Florida State have won recently enough to stay on your list, I guess. There's a lot of talent in Florida.

why is southern cal and texas on this list? Neither has made a playoff, and only socal this year got close.
LSU had 2019 but other than that hasnt been close.
UGA, Bama, Ohio State, Clemson (yuck), Oklahoma, Michigan, have been the mainstays. outside of that some teams are one off

USC is already Oklahoma West under Riley. They've signed like 5 or 6 5-star kids and every single one of them is a WR/QB/RB.
Their defensive recruiting and overall depth of recruiting has been dogshit, and they will continue to be horrid at it moving forward. Until he figures that out they won't be anything more than they were this season.

That list has always been thin. I think you actually have to thin it out more for teams with a legitimate shot every single year no matter who they lose.
If it’s who can win it in a given year based on resources, players, etc, I’d add auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Washington, Florida st, mich st, notre dame, penn state.
If it’s who can win it EVERY year I’d say Bama, UGA, usc, Oklahoma,

Florida, Florida State and Miami are sleeping giants right now. The right coach gets momentum there and can lock down local recruiting, they can be serious players.
Not 100% sure if Miami has the administrative support and facilities to catch up with this era of football, but FSU and Florida are committed.

Texas has the talent to be on the list......but not the coach. When Sark gets fired after next season, we have a chance to hire a coach that will make us a contender for the playoffs. Until then, as long as we have Sark, we will struggle with the conundrum that is beating Texas Tech and Okla St in the same season.

I agree, and it seems so, but the potential is still there for Florida to be an annual contender with the right coach. It has done it before.

There's a clear and discernable pattern concerning programs that have won national championships since the turn of the century. Each national champion (with the exception of 2000 Oklahoma) has at least one Top 10 recruiting class on its roster. That means the following teams are the only ones to have a shot in 2023:

Oklahoma

Texas A&M

If you're talking about history, A&M of course has no business on that list. But things change. Yale used to be on that list.
If you're talking about current resources, coaches, and recruits, then of course A&M belongs on the list.

Agreed. Bama must get the post-Saban hire exactly right, or will spend 10 years in the wilderness. Dabo is the only option, yes?
