The whole thing is a paradox. Giving money for players who, largely don't give a shite about Auburn, reinforces the fact that college sports are a professional endeavor now which removes all the beauty, glory, and romance that came with collegiate athletics and separated them from professional sports.
I wouldn't have said it as crass as giving money for 18 year olds to buy weed but, if we're being honest, that's not far off and not a thing I am going to spend my money on.

I think Auburn NIL has some more PR to do. They have to prove the donation is making a positive difference in the lives of all our athletes. A lot of fans still think of Miami boosters pouring reckless amounts money to certain recruits. Instead the narrative has to be shifted to a wholesome amount that every Auburn athlete can use as a matter of thanks for playing for Auburn. For every Tank Bigsby there are ten athletes scrapping up change to buy beer at Mama Gs like Ziemba said.
I actually think this is a good point. I'd be much more willing to give money to athletes not already making millions or multiple thousands, but short of me hand delivering my money to them that's not how it would ever work.

He made a very good point and maybe it is a small portion of why I have decided not to get any money for NIL.
And here is an example of that logic and one that stuck in my craw a little.
I have always enjoyed being a part of the Fishing community. I have fished in professional tournaments, won and lost plenty of money in them. I own a company that contributes to the professional fishing circuit. It’s a small business, but one that I built and that I am proud of and enjoy running.
Last year, one of the Professional Fisherman died of a brain tumor. He was a super nice guy, and one of the best fisherman on the planet. Right after he died, the BASS organization started a go fund me for him and his family, and started a huge campaign pressuring fans of the fishing world and businesses to contribute to help his family out. Now, I am not against the go fund me, but it appears to be just an every day excuse for charity these days. Fans of the fishing world and businesses to contribute to help his family out. Now, I am not against the go fund me, but it appears to be just a every day excuse for charity these days. If you look at this guys, winnings, it was almost $9,000,000 over the 15 years of his career so you can guesstimate that he made more than twice that with his sponsors.
Now, this guy that has made $20 million in 15 years is asking fans, most of them are blue-collar workers, to bail his family out of his medical expenses. I’m sorry, I just don’t agree with that.
The biggest part of it, is the organization pressuring The fans , saying it is their responsibility to help. I’m sorry it is not.

With or without NIL, pseudocharity, whatever, 5 bad asses are going to take the field next season in game 1.
Who will they be?
LT: Wade
LG: Wright
C: Lew
RG: Stutts
RT: Miller
Over/under 1500 yards for Cowboy?
I say over.
Over/under 20 pass TDs?

It’s all going to depend on who the quarterback is. College football for the most part is a quarterback league now.

That comes from First Hughflipians as well.

Lanier, and a physical line. Not just QB

Not me nor has OTV said anyone isn’t a fan of they don’t donate. The thing I have said is if you want to help build the rebuild then donate if you are happy where the program is then don’t. Has nothing at all to do with fandom. Like I said I have a son in school at Auburn now and if you don’t think I’m pouring money into the university and city in general then you must not have had a student go in the past 15 years.
My only negative is that if you aren’t willing to donate then don’t bitch about losing to teams and programs that have the money backing them like UGA and Bama.

College sports as I knew it is over. TV, Money, NIL, coaching contracts, free agency, 12 team playoffs and fickle fans have changed and will change the game forever. Still loved the games yesterday, love watching my Tigers, but it is not a level playing field. Folks outside the south will continue to migrate toward the NFL. They have better players and you still associate key players to specific teams. The draft, salary caps, etc give everyone a chance.

On record I'd like to say I'd be fine with college football and Auburn not having this professional silliness like we have now. I think I'd much rather root for Turd Ferguson who's father played here or farmed in Lee County a generation back. Or dudes from Lochapolka or Notasolga. It would be college football again, not this minor league NFL system that has a school attached. General Studies? Give me a break.

This is the point you are making that is the issue at hand. You seem to want some kind of badge of honor for donating or some special privilege because you elect to do so
But I just dont think you are going to get it

I don't think the UA or UGA difference relates to money or NIL. Things are just different with UA and UGA than they ever have been.
In Saban and Smart they have two pyscho, insane 24/7 recruiters that can't be matched. And UGA already has an elite talent base. UGA and UA always had the potential, now they have the keys to the kingdom in Saban and Smart. AU could have the same insane recruiter, and they would always be slightly behind UGA because UGA has the better natural base of talent.
The allure of Kiffin was that maybe he had qb/play calling wizardry to compensate for the UA UGA recruiting advantage. (as well as supposed transfer portal mastery).
Just settle in and we can still beat UGA with our great homefield advantage, and the vacuum when Saban retires will be epic (when?). Assuming we bring in good talent and have good qb play. But UGA and UA (until Saban retires) aren't going anywhere. Hopefully Smart will get burned out.
I think NIL will move to a settled state where big boosters will compete for super stars. The average players and the general public's involvement in NIL will eventually be blah. Everyone is now just panicking or being hopeful.

Lanier stop being a douche. I haven’t said shite about wanting anything. I don’t need an autograph I don’t need to interact with student athletes. I’m just tired of our program falling further behind the Bama UGA lsu and being surpassed by aTm UTk and UF.
I don’t need a pat on the back I don’t need shite from this board. Just speaking my opinion you can like it or not but don’t try to tell me what I’m thinking or doing.
For 25 years all I’ve heard is these poor student athletes can’t afford to live, can take their girls out on dates, can’t afford to travel back home boo hoo, blah blah blah. It was fine with everyone here if someone other than “you” had to give $200 handshakes for these poor student athletes.
And for you again Lanier sounds like your donations were a business decision not a charity so who wanted something from supporting.
I’ve always liked you but this new Lanier that has come back from the break is some negative Nancy. So don’t call me stupid or imply that you have a clue what I’m thinking. I spit out exactly what I was thinking. I’m tired of losing to our rivals. If I can help that by the little I donate then so be it.

Like I said twice now, you are not going to get it so whats the use.
My donations were both. Personal and somewhat business. Even though I completely knew there would be no ROI. It was a fun thing to do that I did. Thats it
Nobody wants to lose. And if you want to give them money, then do so. Its no issue. Maybe they should just put a bucket at the gates of the game and let fans toss in money entering and leaving the games.
I paid for 3 season tickets for a couple hundred games. Plus some extra. It is all Im giving and I dont get those tickets any longer
New Lanier is the same as Old Lanier. I just dont happen to agree with you on this and you dont like it. I dont care if you toss some bucks in to make you feel like you are helping the cause, just dont feel like it gives you some right to bitch over the people that dont. Thats my entire point here that you miss.

We need some spiritual healing.
Let us read from Freezesians the third chapter and seventh verse.
“Brother Hugh will tame the Bulldog and drain the Tide, and then Corch and Lanier shall both be welcomed to the table of fandom on the plains.”

Has nothing to do with agreeing with me. Just the implication that you tho k you know what I am thinking when I clearly stated what I was thinking.
I was a season ticket holder as well for years. When it got to where it was costing me $500 a weekend for the family to go to games outside of ticket costs I gave up the tickets.
You not agreeing with my opinion doesn’t bother me at all. I could post the sky is blue and some dipshit is gonna come in with some dumb comment that the sky really isn’t blue it’s just refraction of the light from the sun within the atmosphere that it appears blue or some shite like that.
