It’s abundantly clear college football is not the same game anymore. Most schools are not going to outbid Alabama or the other big boys. When consolidation is complete, I predict between 32-40 schools will comprise this new pro league. Then maybe the rest of the schools can enjoy the purity of their own amateur league again. There is absolutely going to be separation because money talks.

To be clear, we didn't ask for this.

"We didn't buy one player, aight? But I don't know if we're gonna be able to sustain that in the future because more and more people are doing it. It's tough."

Saban, who said he is in favor of players making money, called for transparency, protection for players who might not be aware of what the contracts they sign entail and for the removal of boosters from the recruiting process.

Boosters have begun to pool their money into collectives in order to sign high school players to NIL deals.

"Boosters should continue to be precluded from recruiting, including use of name, image and likeness offers prior to enrollment," Saban said.

He added, "I just hope that we can sort of put some guardrails on all this."

I think you would have to go by conference and find the football programs in each one that has no ability or desire to try and keep up financially with the programs that have big money donors. The Vanderbilts, Stanfords, etc.

One program I think is in a weird spot is Oklahoma State. They’ve been a very respectable program throughout the years. I’m not sure if the T-Boon Pickens money has dried up or just isn’t there for NIL, but they got completely raided in the portal. It would be interesting to see what route a team like that goes.

I completely agree!
I, personally, would support BOTH "leagues", and have no problem with the ideological change of mindset.

CFB at its highest level should be 64 teams, 4 - 16 team conferences, 2 divisions each.

Regular season is 11 games -
7 vs your division, 3 vs other, 1 OOC

Conference title game serve as first round of playoffs. 4 team playoff.

The private schools (Stanford, Vandy, Northwestern, Miami, etc...) serve a purpose besides being academic powerhouses and easy wins.

The reason Vandy has stayed in the SEC for so long is that as long as they're in, the SEC does not have to answer FOIA requests.

Probably a good guess on total numbers. But based on early NIL trends, the pool of programs who can realistically compete in a semi-pro environment is more like 14-15. I’d say Tide, Dogs, LSU, Ags, Canes, Trojans, Us, Gators, Vols, Clemson, Sooners, Buckeyes, Wolverines, Ducks, and the Irish if they really want to.

this is exactly what many people wanted.

"poor widdle ol' student athlete getting so used and abused that he can't profit off his jersey while the schools make millions. It's not fair!! Modern day slavery! Waaahhh!! Let them get their fair share!!"

And now here we are. Anyone that pushed for this, as well as couldn't see the results coming from miles away, is a moron.

What are the results? All this crying about muh college football from the likes of Georgia is hilarious.

You think the bluebloods did it without paying players? NIL simply makes the black market of yesteryear legal and above board.

OSU doesn't have the money like many more prestigious schools do.

Or wealthy individuals and not just at OSU don't see any reason to pay an 18 year to come to such schools.

Programs like Bama will pay any price in NIL to get recruits to Tuscaloosa and the reason why is they want it more than anyone else. That itself is mentally unhealthy and need professional help.

I really wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

What if that was the intention of the liberal types that have promoted paying players for years now.

eta that I think it's the right thing to pay players, but not boosters buying players

As per usual Saban warned everyone about what was happening and asked if this is really what they wanted to do.

They didn’t change or enforce the rules so he adapted to the new environment and now Bama is cleaning up again.

So now everyone can make NIL deals and we still have the number one class? And with all our players being hired guns we have zero opt outs? You need to come up with some new material.
